Activity 1. Application of Biochemistry

b. Discuss how biochemistry can be applied a specific field of study/work. Refer to your
answer in (a.).
 Biochemistry and medicine share a mutually cooperative relationship.
Biochemistry assessed medicine in a way of revealing many aspect of health and
diseases and by studying this new aspects medicine has opened up new areas of
biochemistry. Another is that biochemistry is an important subject of medicine without
it we won’t be able to discover the advancement of knowledge we have today. For
example in physiology biochemistry helps us to know and understand the biochemical
changes happening in our body and other related physiological alterations and these
biochemical changes is then use to study pathology. Those are just few example of
how biochemistry can be applied in medicine.
 Biochemistry can help us in agriculture by applying agricultural biochemistry.
Biochemistry provides studies that emphasize the relationship between plants,
animals bacteria and the environment they live. An example of that is that we can
have a healthy farming because we would understand the use of fertilizers for the
growth of the plants we grow. Biochemistry is essential in agriculture as it is a primary
source of our food if we fail in it we would all be hungry.
 Biochemistry plays a huge role in nutrition and health by helping biochemist to
solve biological problems. In general, biochemistry deals with body substance such as
enzymes,carbohydrates and protein to name a few. This body substance are all
important for us to live our life and to have a body that function properly. Without
biochemistry we would not understand food chemistry which is essential for us to
understand the food we take. If we don’t understand the food we eat we will not be
aware of what nutrients we are lacking and this might cause disease.
 Simple household chores actually needs application of biochemistry for
instance when we cook where we use heat and this heat to denature or to breakdown
biological materials. One essential application of biochemistry in our everyday life is
the fact that we are alive and we require plethora of biochemical reactions.
 Studying biochemistry has contributed to research by providing a concrete and
visible result that we can use to solve biological problems we are encountering today.
For instance the world is currently battling with the virus Covid-19 and all of us are
praying for a vaccine. Doctors, Scientist and Researchers are all doing their best in
finding the cure by researching with the help of biochemistry.
 Biochemistry is a subject that me as a student is currently taking. This subject
has offered students a more broad understanding in science that they can use in their
future career paths.
 Pharmacy is responsible for drug ad medication and biochemistry aids it by
giving us for example an idea if a medicine is altered when put in a certain
temperature through biochemical test. If we can not understand the medicine we give
to people it may be useless since the product is ineffective or worst it will become a
poison and that is why biochemistry is important in pharmacy.
 As a nurse it is important to check and evaluate your patient and that includes
giving them various test such as blood test for diabetic patients. If nurses will not
incorporate biochemistry in their profession it could cause life threatening situation.

