 3.  Singet Dem Herrn ein neues Lied by Johann Sebastien Bach
 Translation:
Sing To the Lord Anew
The assembly of saints should be telling his praises So be thou our true shield and light,
The assembly of saints should be telling his praises.  And if our hope betray us not,
Israel joyful be in him who hath made him. Thou wilt thus henceforth help us.
Let Zion's children rejoice in him Even so is man's life passing,
who is their mighty king;  His end to him is near.
Let them be praising his name's honor in dances;  Blest he whose hope both strong and
With timbrels and with psalt'ries unto him be firm
playing. On thee and on thy grace doth rest.
As doth a father mercy show
Praise ye the Lord in all his doings,
God, take still further now our part,
To his own little children dear, Praise ye him in all his might and
So doth the Lord to all men, majesty!
If as pure children, we him fear. All things which breath do draw,
He sees our feeble powers, Praise ye the Lord, hallelujah!
God knows we are but dust;
For, lacking thee, naught shall we gain
Of all these endeavors.
Just as the grass is mowing,
Or bud and falling leaf,
If wind but o'er it bloweth,
It is no longer there,

Accompaniment: String Quartet (violin, viola, cello, and contrabass), clarinet and oboe,
contrabass

 5.  My Lord What Mourning by William Dawson

Meaning: The text simply talks about Judgement Day, (the day when the stars begin to fall)
when the sinners would be condemned and the true Christians will receive God’s promised
salvation.

Accompaniment: No accompaniment, this was sung in a capella

 6. Smile by Cedric Dent

Meaning: The verse simply talks about how can a smile ease pain and divert sorrow to
happiness.

The composer arranged the song used different moods. He arranged first into a jolly and
jazzy mood, then into a ballad style, then into a soft and to a slower and richer texture. The a
capella part was amazing, most especially on the choir’s touch to lines with a scooping tone. The
soloists obviously were enjoying the spot as they have sung emotionally with happy voices.

 7. Promised Land by Ken Burton

This talks about when Moses sends God’s message to the Israelites that He would bring
them to the promised land (the Canaan), the reason why God freed them from Egypt. There is
where they have the freedom to serve the Lord.

The choir members as the Israelites and one of the singers as Moises re-enacted the scene
where they received the message from Moses when he descended from the mountain of God. An
emphatic and powerful speech as Moses is heard and the choir sings how jubilantly. The song
ended powerfully with very loud dynamics.

Accompaniment: Violin, viola, cello, contrabass, oboe, clarinet, cymbals,
