Assignment No 1. Introduction about Organic Chemistry

1. Describe the event/s that led to the classification of compounds into organic and inorganic. ( 10pts)

2. Differentiate naturally occurring compounds from chemically synthesized compounds. Cite at least 10
examples. (10pts)
- From the word natural, naturally occurring compounds are compounds that can be found
in nature, they exist and processed in Earth without the help of human. On the other
hand, chemically synthesized compounds are compounds that are made by man.
Chemically synthesized compounds are closed imitation of a naturally occurring
compound although they are simply different by their origins. The examples of naturally
occurring compound are: argan oil, beeswax, mineral ores, plant extracts and chemical
used in constructions such as clays. The examples of chemically synthesized
compounds are: alcohol, acid, plastic, hair dye and fertilizer.

3. Carbon being the key element of organic compounds, do its electron configuration in the ground state, excited
state and hybridized state. (15pts)

4. Describe the different hybridized states of carbon atom and give five examples of compounds that represent
each hybridized state.(15pts)
