ACTIVITY NO. 1
1. Look for the meaning of the following:
 Compounds
- Compound refers to a substance made up of two or more different types of atoms that are
chemically bonded together in a fixed ratio.
 Organic compounds
- Organic compounds are a type of compound that contains carbon atoms covalently bonded
with other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, or halogens. Organic
compounds are also known as carbon compounds, and they are the basis of all living things
on Earth.
 Inorganic compounds
- Inorganic compounds are a type of compound in chemistry that do not contain carbon-
hydrogen bonds. Inorganic compounds can be found in many substances, including
minerals, metals, salts, acids, and bases.
 Organic chemistry
- Organic chemistry is also involved in the study of organic reactions, which are chemical
reactions that involve the breaking and forming of chemical bonds in organic compounds.
Organic chemistry is essential to the study of life processes and the development of new
drugs, materials, and technologies.
2. Differentiate organic vs. inorganic compounds.
- The main difference between organic and inorganic compounds is the presence or absence
of carbon-hydrogen (C-H) bonds in their molecular structure. Organic compounds are
generally found in living organisms, such as plants and animals, as well as in fossil fuels
and other natural resources. In contrast, inorganic compounds are compounds that do not
contain carbon-hydrogen bonds in their molecular structure. Inorganic compounds can
contain other elements, such as metals, non-metals, and metalloids.
3. Who Is the Father of Chemistry?
- Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier was known as the father of chemistry.
