3. RESPONSIBILITIES

It is overall responsibility of Site Manager to organize resources to perform

construction activities as per project specification, in compliance with quality, schedule
& safety requirements.
Supervisor will ensure that all works are performed safely as per latest Approved for
Construction (IFC) drawings, specification, and procedure.
The Site Supervisor will ensure that all the activity is conducted in accordance with the
method statement and project specification.
The Instrument Engineer will ensure that all work is executed according to ITP and that
requirements of quality dossier are full filled.
Safety and construction activities shall be carried out with the close coordination of
Contractor.

4. PROCEDURES

Before going to power on the loop, following steps should be followed:

 Check all the QC documents submitted to the construction team for mechanical
& electrical completions are as per specification and ratings.
 Verify the tag of field instrument as per location drawing, P&ID / wiring diagram
/ block diagram and Instrument loop Drawing (ILD).
 Disconnect one core of the cable of field instrument and check the cable
continuity from field side terminals to marshalling cabinet.
 Check the loop impedance with the multimeter and confirm with vendor
specification the impedance of loop is within those specified.
 Check the voltage before knives and confirm with specification of that specified
loop.
 Ensure that there is no earth fault in the loop before attempting to energize the
loop.
 Keep open the disconnect terminals at marshaling cabinet and inject the
simulated signals from it and check the engineering unit, range, control function
graphic and alarm function as per specification / engineering document. Also
check the function of all other auxiliary devices.
Now the loop should be power on by disconnected terminal to close or by
closing knife edge at Marshalling Cabinet.
 Equalize or vent the field device in case of pressure, flow and level.
 Disconnect the cable from field device and connect it with signal source if
process parameters cannot be simulated / generated.
 Connect the power source / secondary instrument to outgoing terminal of
marshalling cabinet as per loop diagram to measure the field injected signal in
case function of system is not to be tested during the field loop checking as per
vendor recommendation.
 Check the communication system between various systems.
 Check the function and completeness of all software tags as per software
engineering document produced by contractor & approved by company before
start up commissioning. Also carry out redundancy check on the system as per
the specification.
 Field instrument and its loop function are to be once again checked with system
function as part of site integration test with all other system if field instrument
and system are loop tested separately.
 Tested loops are to be identified with proper label.
 After loop checking contractor to ensure that all the fittings cables and others
protection devices are reconnected as per instrument loop requirement.

Fill the loop testing check list and take signature of all the concerned .

5. TOOLS & EQUIPMENTS

The following tools and equipment shall be required to perform the works.
 Multi-meter
 Radio
 Process calibrator
 Hart communicator
 DECADE boxes
 Any other equipment as recommended by manufacturers.

6. HSE INSTRUCTIONS

 Prior to start the job, DESCON HSE Officer or Site Engineer shall deliver the
specific safety instruction to the concerned personnel
 The workers will be made aware of safety requirements related to this activity
through daily, weekly and monthly toolbox and safety talks.
 Waste management should be strictly followed to keep the jobsite neat and
clean.
