1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
This document describes the implementation principles and functions of the BSC Cabinet/
Subrack Sharing feature (GBFD-118801 BSC Cabinet/Subrack Sharing)
1.2 Intended Audience

This document is intended for:
l Personnel who need to understand BSC Cabinet/Subrack Sharing
l Personnel who work with Huawei products

2 Overview of BSC Cabinet/Subrack Sharing
With the BSC Cabinet/Subrack Sharing feature, various devices share the cabinet or subrack.
Thus, the network is more integrated and the maintenance of the access network and the core
network is unified. This reduces the equipment space, thus saving the investments at the early
stage and reducing the maintenance costs.
NOTE
The implementation of the BTS cabinet sharing scheme is determined by the actual traffic volume on the
network, transmission networking, and proportions of the call services of the local users.

3 Technical Description
3.1 BSC Cabinet Sharing

Huawei BSC/TC/MGW adopts Huawei N68E-22 cabinet, the design of which complies with
the IEC 60297 and IEEE standards. Huawei BSC allows the BSC, TC, and MGW to share one
N68E-22 cabinet, thus reducing the equipment space and the costs. Figure 3-1 shows the BSC
cabinet sharing.

NOTE
Huawei soft handover products consist of MSC server (MSS) and MGW. The MSS is responsible for
controlling calls and signaling, and the MGW is responsible for switching and transmission of the actual
services.
The networking in the case of BSC cabinet sharing can adopt the distributed architecture by placing the
MSS at the center of the urban area whereas moving the MGW to the places nearer to the radio access
network. In this manner, when the calling party and the called party are controlled by the same MGW, the
switching can be completed within the MGW without using the MSS. Thus, the transmission resources
between the BSC and the MGW are saved. Figure 3-2 shows the networking for BSC cabinet sharing.

3.2 BSC Subrack Sharing

In the version later than GBSS8.0, the PCU is integrated in the DPUd, and the BSC, DPUc, and
DPUd are placed in the same subrack. In this manner, the BSC, TC, and PCU share the same
subrack. That is, the CS services and PS services are implemented in the same subrack. One
cabinet can provide the CS and PS services of 2048 TRXs. In this manner, the system is more
integrated, and the equipment space and the operation and maintenance costs are reduced. Figure
3-3 shows the BSC subrack sharing.
