5 Approaches of Ethical Decision Making Style 1. The Utilitarian Approach Choosing the option that will produce the most good and do the least harm Example: An example is pharmaceutical industry, as corona vaccine is made and distributed with 90% success rate. It means good for 90 people and not working on 10 people out of 100. This is utilitarian approach by focusing on more good than bad impacts. So, Pakistan get a deal with China for this vaccine.
2. The Rights Approach
Choosing the option that’s best respects the rights of all stakeholders Example: Freedom to speech is everyone’s right but speech against any community, ethnicity or religion is not right in any organization. Speaking against Baloch or Hazara community is not bearable in any organization of Pakistan and respect their rights as well.
3. The Fairness or Justice Approach
Choosing the option that treats people equally or proportionately Example: Inequality and unjustness is a major problem in Pakistani society as well in Business organizations. Favoritism, ego and discrimination can seem in everywhere. So this approach stated that all people are equal and there should be a justice for all.
4. The Common Good Approach
Choosing the option that best serves the community as a whole, not just some members Example: Best ethical example is making employees a shareholder of company, so that not few people take advantage of profit but all have equally benefits as well. Because in Pakistan owners become richer and richer but employee become poorer and poorer.
5. The Virtue Approach
Choosing the option that leads me to act as the sort of person I want to be Example: This approach is all about the virtues that is choose in decisions. It’s decision to be a person of virtue. So honesty, courage, compassion, generosity, tolerance, love, fidelity, integrity, fairness, self-control, and prudence are all examples of virtues. It’s all universal, so these virtues can see in Pakistan.
