Product Description
Combination Fire / Smoke dampers provide an automatic means of localizing areas of smoke and or fire in
ventilation systems that is greatly contribute to the safety of life and property in the early stage of fire. It prevents
the spread of fire and or smoke through ventilation ductworks or wall openings. These type of dampers offer an
effective fire or smoke barrier maintaining the integrity in a fire situation and it is combined with low leakage
characteristic for smoke management. It is suitable for installation in sheet metal ductworks, openings in walls or
floor slabs made from concrete, bricks and in lightweight partition walls.

"SAFID" introducing "ERL" Thermoelectric Tripping Device (heat sensor) to replace the existing high torque spring
/ fusible link fire closure mechanism in all Combination Fire & Smoke dampers and blade type Fire dampers. The
"ERL" is thermally responsive bimetal disc / sensor that open and close the electrical contacts at a specific factory
calibrated temperature setting. The "ERL" is available in fixed temperature setting at 165°F (74 °C) only. The "ERL"
requires factory installation and wiring together with the qualified actuator to meet "UL" requirements.

Dampers which allow remote resetting of the damper from a remote location are dangerous. All damper moving
parts must be inspected and cycled at every six months and in accordance with "NFPA90A & 92A" latest edition
and local codes.

Sequence of operation
Fire Mode: The ERL (Thermoelectric Tripping Device) resettable link has a thermal sensor
switch that interrups the power supply to the fire & smoke control actuator as soon as the duct
temperature exceeds 165ºF caused by a fire. When the power supply is interrupted, the energy
stored in the spring of the fire & smoke damper actuator moves the damper back to its safe
position. The damper can be open again by pressing the reset button on ERL after the
temperature cooled down below 165ºF.
Smoke Mode: When a signal detected through normally closed smoke detector (by others)
connection, the power supply to the fire & smoke damper actuator will be interrupted. The energy
stored in the damper actuator moves the damper back to its safe position and remain closed until
the smoke signal close down. The system will reset after power is reapplied to the actuator and
damper will open. By placing an optional control switch (by others), the damper blades at open
position can be closed at any time if required.

Fire & Smoke damper actuator

Application
The type FSNF spring-return actuator is intended for the operation of smoke
and combination fire and smoke dampers in ventilation and air-conditioning
systems. The actuator will meet requirements of UL555 and UL555S when
tested as an assembly with the damper and will meet requirements of UBC
for 15 second opening and closing. Square footage of damper operated will
depend on make and model and the temperature required.

Operation
Mounting of the actuator to the damper shaft or jackshaft (3/8” to 1.05”) is via
a cold-weld clamp. Teeth in the clamp and V-bolt dig into the metal of both solid
Technical Data 1451 and hollow shafts maintaining a perfect connection. The specially designed
Power Supply 230 VAC ± 14%, 50/60 Hz clamp will not crush hollow shafts. The bottom end of the actuator is held by an
anti-rotation strap or by a stud provided by the damper manufacturer.
Power Consumption Running 50/60 Hz, 23 VA
Power Consumption Holding 9 VA, End stop 58 VA, 0.25 A slow blow fuse The actuator is mounted in its fail safe position with the damper blade(s) closed.
*  Upon applying power, the actuator drives the damper to the open position. The
Shaft Diameter 1/2” to 1.05” round, centers on 1/2” and 3/4” internal spring is tensioned at the same time. If the power supply is interrupted,
with insert, 1.05” without insert the spring moves the damper back to its fail-safe position.

Fire & Smoke damper actuator

Application
The type FSNF spring-return actuator is intended for the operation of smoke
and combination fire and smoke dampers in ventilation and air-conditioning
systems. The actuator will meet requirements of UL555 and UL555S when
tested as an assembly with the damper and will meet requirements of UBC for
15 second opening and closing at 350°F. Square footage of damper operated
will depend on make and model and the temperature required.

Operation
Mounting of the actuator to the damper axle shaft or jackshaft (3/8” to 1.05”) is
via a cold-weld clamp. Teeth in the clamp and V-bolt dig into the metal of both
Technical Data 1447 solid and hollow shafts maintaining a perfect connection. The specially designed
Power Supply 24 VAC ± 20%, 50/60 Hz clamp will not crush hollow shafts. The bottom end of the actuator is held by an
anti-rotation strap or by a stud provided by the damper manufacturer.
Power Consumption Running 50/60 Hz, 24 VA
Power Consumption Holding 6.5 VA, End stop 67 VA, 2.5 A slow blow fuse *  The actuator is mounted in its fail safe position with the damper blade(s) closed.
Transformer Sizing 40VA (class 2 power source) Upon applying power, the actuator drives the damper to the open position. The
Shaft Diameter 1/2” to 1.05” round, centers on 1/2” and 3/4” internal spring is tensioned at the same time. If the power supply is interrupted,
with insert, 1.05” without insert the spring moves the damper back to its fail-safe position.

9. Thermoelectric Tripping Device (ERL)

The thermoelectric tripping device is suitable with Belimo "BF" and Honeywell "MS" series damper
actuators for fire damper or combination fire & smoke damper applications. This device can be
integrated with all series of "SAFID" Combination Fire / Smoke Dampers.

The tripping device have built-in thermal "fuse or sensor switch" that disconnect the power supply
to the damper actuator as soon as the duct temperature exceeds 165ºF. If the power supply is
interrupted, the energy stored at the built-in spring-return of the actuator will moves back the
damper blades to its safe position (closed position).

The tripping device can be manually reset by pressing the reset button after the temperature
cooled down below the set point (165°F).
