SURVIVA L
GUIDE
SURVIVAL PACK
“BUG OUT BAG”
1. Drinking water: It is much more difficult to find clean water in some
parts of the world; bringing one will keep us hydrated for days.
2. Dried food: Just like water, our bodies do need food as a source of
energy
3. First aid kit: Because we cannot immediately go to the hospital after
an accident or any injury, this first aid kit will delay our wounds or
symptoms before getting to the doctor’s hands.
4. Clothes: It is essential to have at least one change of clothes especially
in wet conditions. Wearing damp clothes is uncomfortable and can
soon become an issue.
5. Knives: This can be used for trapping, wood cutting, skinning and
other emergency situations.
6. Rope: Some types of rope can be used to make a shelter, climb, drag
heavy objects, or even build traps.
7. Emergency Radio: We may not be able to access our mobile phones;
however, we can get the emergency information (what has happened,
what should be done to make the situation better) by listening to the
radio.
8. Lighter: Any light source is certainly helpful at night as it helps us stay
safe from obstacles and aware of strangers or wild animals.
9. Medicine: This is obviously a must for those who have health issues.
Because it will definitely be hard to go to the hospital during your
journey, it is a good idea to have some common medicine with you at
all times.
10. Navigation: Knowledge about basic routes and landmarks is needed
when you travel to unfamiliar places; map & compass will ensure that
you are on the right track.

PURIFYING WATER
BOILING
(cheapest + safest)
1. Remove particles by filtering the water
2. b.Pour the water into a pot or any fire resistant container
3. c.Initiate a fire and put the container on top
The longer the water stays boiled, the more likely it is that any
dangerous bacteria will be killed off. Minimum suggested time
boiled is 1 minute but 10 is recommended to be safe.

EFFECTIVE FOR
CHLORINATION
(Use chlorine to kill germs, parasites)
SOLAR STILL
With a solar still, the natural energy of the sun is used to purify
water. The most basic way to create a solar still is to simply dig
a hole in the ground, add in some vegetation for that extra
moisture, pour in your saltwater, leave your catch cup or bowl
in the middle, and securely cover the hole with a large plastic.
EQUIPMENT
a big layer of plastic
a dug-up hole on the
ground
some vegetation
saltwater
WATER
DESALINATING WATER
BOILING WITH HEAT
This method can provide you with more drinkable water than
a solar still, but it does require a lot of external heat energy.
The closed container is heated to boil saltwater inside and the
water vapor travels through the condenser or cooling tube,
where it changes back to water that will then be free of salt
and other particles.
EQUIPMENT
Clay, glass, or metal container that can hold your
saltwater and handle extreme heat
Condenser or cooling tube
Catchment system or container for your condensate
STONE OVEN
This is a quick and easy way to make an oven with heat control.
1. Build a small chamber big enough to fit your meal.
2. Give it three walls and a top, leaving one side open for easy
load and unloading.
3. Stack wood around the stone box and start your fire.
4. Control the stone oven’s temperature by adding or removing
logs to your fire.
FOOD
METHODS TO PREPARE FOOD
MAKESHIFT GRILL
1. A glowing pile of coals is easier to control than open flames for
cooking. So let your fire burn down to orange flameless coals
before turning your fire into a grill pit.
2. Once you get your bed of coals glowing, find a grate you can
use as a grill. A section of chicken wire or even chain-link fence
will work in a pinch.
3. Place your grate over the coals and let it get hot (to disinfect it)
before placing your food onto the grill. Now cook your meal to
your satisfaction.
