Services of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan
Introduction:
Sir Syed was born on 17 October 1817. His first job was as a Clerk in the court at Agra.
In 1838, he entered the service of East India Company. He traveled to England in 1869. British
government gave him the title of Sir(KCSI) in 1888. And he died on 27 March 1898.
Educational Services:
Some educational institutions were founded by Sir Syed. Such as Persian School at
Muradabad, Victoria School at GhaziPur and MAO School which became University in 1920. He
laid the foundation of the Scientific Society in 1863, which main purpose was impart scientific
and advanced education. Aligarh Institute Gazatte published by Sir Syed. All social, religious
and educational issues were discussed in this magazine. British Indian Association was highlight
the local educational issues and they gave the idea of Vernacular University. But it failed due to
Urdu-Hindi controversy. He issued Risala Tahzib-Akhlaq. He established the Khuwasatger
Tarak-i-Taleem Committee in 1870. He concluded through this committee research on finding
reason behind decreasing Muslim students in government schools and colleges that separate
college for Muslims should be. He held the All India Muslim Educational Conference on
December 1886 to discuss the educational issues and problems related to Muslims.
Political Services:
Sir Syed lessen the British misunderstanding about Mutiny on Independence War 1857. He
created reconciliation among British and Muslims through publication of Ahkam-e-Taam-e-Ahl-e-
Kitab, Tabeen-ul-Kalam and Tahzib-ul-Akhlaq etc. After Urdu-Hindi controversy, thinking of Sir
Syed was changedAnd that point Tow Nation concept emerged. he demanded separate electorates
for Muslims in 1888. Sir Syed opposed Indian Civil Service as Muslims were not ready to learn
English. He wanted that Muslims should stay away from Politics. He adopted the ‘Wait and see
policy'.
