A Tribute to Dr. David B. Andres

Aim High, Hit the Mark! One of my favorite quotes that I think best
describes the inspirational memoirs of simply one of the country’s best achievers in
Region III, or perhaps in the country. A determine, dedicated, but humble man who
lead a life of great purposed and achievements. Born from a poor family in
Zambales and never forgot his roots.

It was a personal privilege to know this wonderful man whose legacy will
continue to inspire future generation. The legend as it may seem, “the man of
honesty Dr. David Binola Andres. A man who stood as external symbol for others
and a brilliant torch of light in a proud pocession of numerous excellent awards,
recognition and titles. That armed him to win the fight to success. A prestigious
man whom I can compare the life to the Bible character “Joseph the Dreamer”. A
man of god who reach his destiny through God’s guidance and despite the oust of
his brother to tried to kill him, he still manages himself to be at the top of them all.

Flashback of his past: Dr. David B. Andres childhood experiences was not a
life of toys, gadgets, fun playing and strolling, but a life that an early age he had to
help his parents do the household chores and some errand on the farm. He was
awake early in the reality of poverty to earn a living for their daily needs and to help
in his financial needs in his schooling. In spite of all this sacrifices and shameful
experiences, he’s still happy to do this thing for his family and love to reminisce
those past because it is by then, that he became a better person.

His quest to attained education was quite hard to walk in. He strives well to
pursue his studies. Fortunately, he acquires scholarship from the school plus the
educational benefit of his father through the PVAO as the guerilla during the
American and Japanese war. With all the perseverance and endurance, he surpassed
hardship and finished education with flying colors. He gained the degree of
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education. He made this a stepping stone in
handling his goal to success. He beheaded countless civic and community groups
and organization, and again, earned him numerous recognition, award and trophy’s
for his excellent in leadership. Lincoln quoted; “A matter of moral purpose and that
moral realm is reached by that insight and rhetoric of which only the truly great are
capable”. A words that picturize his capability of leadership, because he was a
leader who set example for all of us, a role model both in terms of personal and
professional development, passionately dedicated to what is just and honorable.
His appointee as SUC President marked a new beginning of another milestone to
success in his life. He spearheaded more colleges and universities. That also brought
him to various places in the country and later to foreign country just to attend
seminars and trainings on how to improve the country’s education on agricultural
development.

Moreover, Life is not only sunshine and flowers bloom, sometimes it does
rain in a midst of success, but what is important is that you are not guilty and
always ready to face allegations and criticism. In that case, He brushed off his Jibes
and Jabs of his jealous critics and embodied the classical principles of right action
and virtue. As the saying goes, “The people who are prone to fall on their knees to
do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw stone of malice when
failure settles its clouds upon our heads”. A very true speech of Ronald Reagan
before he stepped down on his presidency. Charges and allegations filed to Dr.
Andres was dismissed due to lack of merit, insufficient evidence and the like.

And Last but not the least the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo have brought severe
destruction to the development of the school (WLAC) and the region as a whole.
The tragedy needed a national voice to share the mourning, to comfort and yet to
say the quest must go on… He is the man who became the voice for this task.
Personally, I admire Dr. Andres for his unfailing insight and untiring effort to
support the WLAC and the region as well, to rise again, construct and developed the
school and the entire Central Luzon. Through all this his feet kept on standing
above the trials and made it a challenge rather than turn down his dreams… Really,
“The future doesn’t belong to the faint hearted, it belongs to the brave.” And for
real in time of average men, he stood taller than anyone else.

His spirit of excellence and unmatched moral standard will live and
inspire us through…
