Pampan
In 1679, Don Alonso Sánchez de Aponte built ranches and
houses that, added to those that were already owned by
Don Roque de Quezada, Don Juan Fernández, Doña
Mariana and Doña Catalina; they constitute what would
later become the town of Pampán.
In 1844, due to the crisis of yellow fever and other
diseases, the population moved to the entrance or foot of
La Catalina, on land donated by Doña Isabel Josefa Peña,
On September 9 of that year, the Provisional Council of
Trujillo elevates the village to a Civil Parish. This
foundation was called Pueblo Viejo, which would later
become Pampán Flor de Patria.
The name Pampán has its origin in colonial times. The
Spaniards called "hacienda pan comer" those that
produced minor fruits for family consumption; and "bread
to take" to the farms that produced the most important
fruits, which were used for trade and export. They simply
called the place double bread, that is to say: Pampán.
