Disruptive technologies are the innovation that significantly alters the way that consumers, industries or
businesses operate. A disruptive technology is one that displaces an established technology and shakes
up the industry or a ground- breaking product that creates a completely new industry.

The few examples of disruptive technologies that brought a completely new industry are-

1. Cell phones –cell phones disrupted the telecom industry making it possible to call anywhere.
2. Personal computers- they replaced typewriters and brought a change how we communicate.
3. Emails- they disrupted the postal card industry .
4. Laptops- they replaced the personal computers and desktops and making it possible to connect
from anywhere.
5. Social networking – it brought a huge change how the way we communicate and disrupted the
messaging industry.

One of the major examples of disruptive technologies that brought a huge change is NETFLIX. Today,
as the world is going through a pandemic and everything is at a standstill. The entertainment
industry is still at a pause. Many have suffered huge losses but there are still who are making money
in these times through providing entertainment to the public. These online streaming services that
offer a wide range variety of TV shows, movies, documentaries and thousands of other such
entertainment at a low monthly price. While sitting at home during the pandemic , consumers were
easily able to avail to new as well as old movies and shows. Netflix not only changed the cinema but
also or living rooms.

Netflix remains the leading company when it comes to having disrupted the market. innovation has
been a key component and Netflix is doing a very good job. The advantages that Netflix provides
are-

3. Can stream content anywhere
4. Access to Exclusive Netflix original movies
5. Unlimited access to tv shows and movies

7. Sharing accounts option which is one of the rarest features of a movie platform which Netflix
provides.
Disruptive technologies are an opportunity to the company who are updated with leading new
technologies. It can help not only in luring customers by providing better products but also
benefit the competition. Netflix was a game changer for the entertainment industry. It not only
made goodwill after entering into the market but is also the leading online streaming
applications till date. It changed the way people can easily see new movies just through an
application and by sitting in their homes.
