Student 1: I am going to present the story called "What did a Colombian living abroad used to
feel upon returning to the country?

Student 1: The following image shows several of the stages that were exposed in the

1. Student 2: What did the two Colombians interviewed in the article say about their return
to Colombia?

Student 3: They used to said about Colombia, negative aspects, they mentioned insecurity,
disorder as negative factors when returning to the country.

2. Student 2: When did Colombians experience culture shock?

Student 3: They used to experience a culture shock when they must adapt to daily life and
discovered that maybe she is not the same, that they possibly had another vision of life.

3. Student 2: Who were the two Colombians interviewed in the article, before returning to
Colombia?

Student 3: The first interviewed is called Maria Isabel, he used to study Civil Engineering, he
was awarded a scholarship for belonging to the tennis team at his University, the second
interviewed was Nicolas, he used to live in Holland for 14 years, he has children and his ex-
wife is a resident in Holland.

Student 3: They used to live very far from their country of origin, for example Nicolas lived in
Holland and Maria Isabel lived in Illinois, US.

5. Student 1: Why did the two people mentioned in the article used to experience a culture
shock upon return to Colombia?

Student 3: They used to feel a culture shock because they lived a long time outside their
country of origin, therefore they felt like foreigners in their own country.

6. Student 1: How did the Colombians feel emotionally upon returning to her country of
origin?

Student 3: Answer: They used to feel, both emotionally and physically, very bad, they felt
anxious, depressed and isolated from their native country.

7. Student 2: Which culture shock symptoms did Maria and Nicolas use to feel?

Student 3: According to the two psychologists cited in the article, they used to go through an
adaptation process, they used to feel at first happy to return to their country of origin and
after a few weeks they felt distant and isolated from their country.
