Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in 1985. He is widely regarded as one
of the best players in the world. The legendary Dutch genius Johan Cruyff said he's one
of the best ever. Ronaldo became a soccer superstar playing for English team
Manchester United, Spain's Real Madrid, and for Portugal. While he was playing in
midfield, he was regularly scoring spectacular goals.
Ronaldo started kicking a ball around when he was three. His skill was obvious then,
and by ten years old, two of Portugal's top clubs wanted to sign him. He joined
Sporting Lisbon and became the only player in their history to play for the Under-16,
Under-17, Under-18, B team, and first-team within one season. His skills soon were
attracting Europe's big teams.
Manchester United decided Ronaldo was the perfect replacement for David Beckham
and signed him in 2003. While he was setting the English Premier League alight in his
time there with his silky skills, he helped the team win nine trophies, including the UEFA
Champions League. He also picked up the FIFA World Player of the Year award in
2008.
In 2009, Ronaldo joined his boyhood heroes Real Madrid and became the most
expensive footballer in history. His transfer fee was over $131 million. He broke Real's
scoring record in his second season, with 53 goals in all competitions. In 2012, Diego
Maradona said Ronaldo was "the best player on the planet."
Princess Diana was born Diana Frances Spencer on July 1, 1961, in Sandringham,
Norfolk, England. She was growing up in a close-knit family environment, surrounded by
the beauty of the English countryside. While she was attending boarding school, Diana
was discovering her passion for helping others and showing compassion towards those
in need. In 1981, she was capturing the hearts of people around the world when she
was marrying Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne.
As she was adapting to her new royal life, Diana was also becoming increasingly
involved in charitable work, focusing particularly on issues such as homelessness,
HIV/AIDS, and the stigma surrounding mental health. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s,
she was tirelessly working to raise awareness and support for various causes, all while
navigating the challenges of life in the public eye.
Despite facing personal struggles and the pressures of her high-profile marriage, Diana
was continuing to advocate for those who were marginalized or voiceless. Tragically,
her life was coming to a sudden end in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997, at
the age of 36, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and humanitarianism.
Fernando Botero, born in 1932 in Medellín, Colombia, painted in the neo-figurative style
and referred to himself as “the most Colombian of Colombian artists.” His distinctive
style emerged during his time in New York in the 1960s, where he drew inspiration from
the Italian Renaissance. Botero experimented with creating volume in his figures by
expanding them and compressing the space around them, resulting in his unique
approach.
As a young artist, Botero looked at paintings in his local Catholic church, which followed
the centuries-old Baroque style, influencing his own work. Despite not having the means
to visit galleries and view other artworks, he held his first exhibition in Bogotá at the age
of 20. The proceeds from this exhibition allowed him to travel to Europe to study art.
Botero’s works now grace galleries worldwide, and he commands millions of dollars for
each painting. His pieces have become sought-after collector’s items, often purchased
as investments. In 2005, Botero created a series of 50 paintings graphically depicting
the horrors of the events at Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison, showcasing his use of art for
social commentary.
Fernando Botero was born in 1932 in Medellín, Colombia. During his career, he painted
in the neo-figurative style and referred to himself as “the most Colombian of Colombian
artists.” Most notably, he focused on painting large people: figures that were much
larger than life in all parts of their body. His critics often called them “fat people.”
Interestingly, Botero didn’t know the reason why he painted such obese forms.

Reflecting on the recent activity, I found it to be both challenging and rewarding. Initially,
I felt a bit overwhelmed, but as I delved into the task, I gained a sense of
accomplishment. The activity pushed me to think critically and reinforced certain
concepts we've covered in class. In terms of improvements in my academic process, I
believe time management is an area where I could enhance my skills. Allocating time
more efficiently to different aspects of my studies would likely lead to better outcomes.
Regarding the impact of this activity on my academic journey, I think it provided
valuable practical experience. It allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to a real-
world scenario, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. I appreciate how
such activities bridge the gap between theory and practical application. Concerning the
importance of learning a second language, I perceive it as a crucial skill in today's
globalized world. It not only enhances communication but also opens up opportunities
for personal and professional growth. Learning a second language allows individuals to
connect with diverse cultures, broadening their perspectives and contributing to a more
interconnected society.
