FIELD CONTROL WIRING — Install a Carrier-approved
accessory thermostat assembly according to installation in-
structions included with the accessory. Locate thermostat
assembly on a solid wall in the conditioned space to sense aver-
age temperature in accordance with thermostat installation
instructions.
Route thermostat cable or equivalent single leads of colored
wire from subbase terminals to low-voltage terminal strip on
unit (shown in Fig. 9) as described in Steps 1 through 4 below.
NOTE: For wire runs up to 15.2 m (50 ft), use no. 18 AWG
(American Wire Gage) insulated wire (35 C minimum). For
15.2 to 22.9 m (51 to 75 ft), use no. 16 AWG insulated wire
(35 C minimum). For over 22.9 m (75 ft), use no. 14 AWG
insulated wire (35 C minimum). All wire larger than no. 18
AWG cannot be directly connected to the thermostat and will
require a junction box and splice at the thermostat. (See Table

To change fan speeds:
1. Shut off unit power supply and tag disconnect.
2. Loosen belt by loosening fan motor mounting nuts. See
Fig. 43 and 44.
3. Loosen movable pulley flange setscrew (see Fig. 45).
4. Screw movable flange toward fixed flange to increase
speed or away from fixed flange to decrease speed. In-
creasing fan speed increases load on motor. Do not ex-
ceed maximum speed specified in Tables 1A and 1B.
5. Set movable flange at nearest keyway of pulley hub and
tighten setscrew. (See Tables 1A and 1B for speed change
for each full turn of pulley flange.)
To align fan and motor pulleys:
1. Loosen fan pulley setscrews.
2. Slide fan pulley along fan shaft.
3. Make angular alignment by loosening motor from Fig. 44 — Typical Belt-Drive Motor Mounting

To adjust belt tension:
1. Loosen fan motor mounting nuts.
2. Sizes 006-009 — Slide motor mounting plate away from
fan scroll for proper belt tension (13-mm [1/2-in. deflec-
tion with 3.6 to 4.5 mg (8 to 10 lbs) force and tighten
mounting nuts (see Fig. 43).
Size 012, 014 — Slide motor mounting plate downward
to tighten belt tension to 1/2-in. deflection with 2.27 to
4.5 mg (5 to 10 lbs) of force. Secure motor mounting
plate nuts. See Fig. 44.

SERVICE

When servicing unit, shut off all electrical power to unit

and tag disconnect to avoid shock hazard or injury from
rotating parts.
Cleaning — Inspect unit interior at the beginning of each
heating and cooling season or as operating conditions require.
EVAPORATOR COIL — Inspect whenever filters are
checked (see Filters section), and clean evaporator coil annu-
ally or as required. Clean with commercial coil cleaner.
1. Turn unit power off and install lockout tag. Remove
evaporator coil access panel.
2. If accessory economizer is installed, remove economizer
by disconnecting 12-pin Molex plug and removing econo-
mizer mounting screws (see Fig. 15 or 26). Refer to Acces- Fig. 47 — Cleaning Condenser Coil (Sizes 008-014)
sory Economizer Installation Instructions for more details.
3. Slide filters out of unit.
4. Clean coil using a commercial coil cleaner or dishwasher
detergent in a pressurized spray canister. Wash both sides
of coil and flush with clean water. For best results,
backflush toward return-air section to remove debris.
5. Flush condensate pan after completion.
6. Reinstall economizer and filters.
7. Reconnect wiring.
8. Replace access panels.
CONDENSER COILS — Inspect coils monthly. Clean con-
denser coils annually, and as required by location and outdoor-
air conditions.

Economizer Adjustment — Refer to Optional Econo-
mizer sections on pages 13 and 16.
High-Pressure Switch — The high-pressure switch
contains a Schrader core depressor, and is located on the com-
pressor hot gas line. This switch opens at 428 psig and closes at
320 psig. No adjustments are necessary.
Loss-Of-Charge Switch — The loss-of-charge switch
contains a Schrader core depressor, and is located on the com-
pressor liquid line. This switch opens at 7 psig and closes at
22 psig. No adjustments are necessary.
Freeze-Stat — The freeze-stat is a bimetal temperature-
sensing switch that is located on the “hair-pin” end of the evap-
orator coil. The switch protects the evaporator coil from freeze-
up due to lack of airflow. The switch opens at 30 F and closes
at 45 F. No adjustments are necessary.
Cycle-LOC™ Device — The system is protected with a
Cycle-LOC device so that the compressor will not start or con-
tinue to run should a high pressure, loss of charge or freeze-stat
open. To reset the Cycle-LOC device, set the thermostat to
eliminate cooling demand, then return to original set point.
This should be done only once, and if system shuts down due
Fig. 50 — Separating Coil Sections (Sizes 006,007) to the same fault, determine the problem before attempting to
reset the Cycle-LOC device.
Overload Relay (OLR) — This relay is a 24-volt tem-
perature sensing switch embedded into the evaporator motor
windings. Should the motor winding develop excessive heat
for any reason, the switch will open the “R” (red wire) from the
low voltage transformer. When this switch opens the low volt-
age circuit is deenergized. The switch is automatically reset.
Refrigerant Charge — Amount of refrigerant charge is
listed on unit nameplate (also refer to Tables 1A and 1B). Refer
to Carrier Refrigerant Service Techniques Manual, Chapter 1,
Refrigerants section.
Unit panels must be in place when unit is operating during
charging procedure. Unit must operate a minimum of 10 min-
utes before checking or adjusting charge.
NO CHARGE — Use standard evacuating techniques. After
evacuating system, weigh in the specified amount of refriger-
ant (refer to Tables 1A and 1B).
