Week 2
Biblical View: The students will see that, God has placed humans in charge of all His creatures
(the environment) right from the beginning
(Genesis 1:21)
God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed
after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
World View: The students will learn that in science, the practice of classifying organisms is
called taxonomy (Taxis means arrangement and nomos mean method). The modern taxonomic system
was developed by the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778). He used simple physical
characteristics of organisms to identify and differentiate between different species and is based on
genetics.
AIM: The students will learn about the different keys of classifying living things- the spider and number
keys
Talk-less Teaching
Project-Based Learning
Objectives:
WALT: (We Are Learning To:)
Identify the main groups of living things
Use keys in classifying and identifying living things
Explain genetic terminologies such as genes and chromosomes
Outcomes:
WILF: (What I am Looking For:)
Ability to identify the main groups of living things
Ability to use keys in classifying an identifying living things
Ability to explain genetic terminologies such as genes and chromosomes
KEYWORDS:
Groups of living things are the microorganisms, plant and animal kingdoms
Keys for classifying and identifying living things are the spider and number keys
genes are the hereditary materials in the nucleus of a cell

and other hands-on and physical activities.

5mins Starter:
The teacher displays pictures of different animals and the students Group
are to name the organisms in the pictures before them activity
Check and identify what traits are common, less common or absent
among themselves in the classroom/entire school
The teacher ask the students to tell what they recall from the
previous topic
She states that classification is important as it helps to identify
unfamiliar organisms in a habitat.
The teacher reads out the topic and ask the students to read the
WALT and WILF
Using the students responses from the activity given to them earlier
(starter), the teacher displays a chart showing names of the main
groups of living things- microorganisms, plant kingdom and animal
kingdom with examples of each group
The teacher explains that, living things are easily identified when
they are classified/grouped, hence, there are two kinds of keys used
for classifying organisms- spider and number keys
She explains that the spider key as the name implies, refers to the
way the key spreads out like the legs of a spider while the number
keys, which take you step by step to the identification of the
