Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

• analyze the basic concepts and fundamentals of a robotic system.

• demonstrate the forward and reverse kinematics of a robotic system.

• get awareness about the sensor and actuator systems used in robotics.

• understand the working of control and automation system associated with robotics.

• demonstrate the technology trends and applications of robotics.

Unit I
Introduction to robotics : Robotics and programmable automation, Historical
background, Laws of robotics, Robot definitions, Robotics systems and robotic
anatomy, Robotic anatomy, Specifications of robots, Safety measures in robotics
Unit II
Robot kinetics and dynamics : Forward and reverse kinematics, Forward and
reverse transformations, Homogeneous transformations, Robot arm dynamics, DH
transformation
Unit III
Actuators and end-effectors : Functions of drive systems, Introduction to
pneumatic systems, FRL,Electrical drives and Dc and ac motors, Piezoelectric
actuators, Stepper motor and drive mechanism, Classification of end effectors, Drive
systems for grippers, Active and passive grippers
Unit IV
Sensors and Feedback : Need of sensing systems, Types of sensors, Position
sensors, Velocity,RPM sensors, Robot vision systems
Unit V
Flexible automation and control : Automation and mechatronic applications, Basic
electronic components, Digital circuit and devices, PC and microprocessor based
control, Spring mass damper system, Different types of controllers, Serial and parallel
communication
Unit VI
Applications of robots : Industrial applications Welding, Spray painting, Material
handling and transfer, Sorting and inspection of parts in assembly plants, Touch free
heart surgeries using robots, Touch free heart surgeries using robots, Nano robot in
targeted drug delivery system, Machine loading and unloading
