1. Determine the required steel area for a T-beam that traverses the
center of a floor system for which bw = 300 mm and d = 550 mm. The
beams are 4.8 m long and spaced at 3 m. O.C. The slab thickness is 100
mm. MD = 400 KN-m (including its own weight), ML = 500 KN-m. f’c = 28
MPa, and fy = 414 MPa

As=6867.55 mm2
2. Determine the Ultimate Moment Capacity of the given section with
the following properties
f'c=21 MPa
fy=345 MPa
Steel cover =60mm
Mu=331.82 kN-m
PAST PRE BOARD EXAM
3. A reinforced concrete beam has a width of 300mm and an effective
depth of 600mm. Compressive reinforcement (if required will be placed
at d'=60mm. f'c=27.5 MPa and fy=415 MPa. Use NSCP 2015. The beam is
to support a factored bending moment of 670 kN-m,
a) Determine the area of steel required as tension reinforcement if the
minimum strain in the extreme tension steel is permitted to be 0.004

As=4007.595 mm2
b) Determine the area of steel required as tension reinforcement if the
minimum strain in the extreme tension steel is limited to 0.005

As=3535.129 mm2
c) Determine the number of 28mm bars required as tension
reinforcement if the reduction factor, ϕ =0.90

6 pcs.
4. Design a rectangular beam to carry a factored moment Mu=227 kN-m.
The beam width is 250mm and its effective depth is 400mm. Use
f'c=20.7 MPa and fy=344 MPa. d'=60mm.(Determine the required number
of 25mm bars in tension reinforcement and in compression
reinforcement (if needed).
Use 2-25 mm for Top bars and 5-25mm for Bottom bars
5. A simply supported reinforced concrete beam with a width of
b=230mm and an effective depth of 500mm has a span of 6m. THe beam
carries a live load of 18 kN/m and a dead load of 9 kN/m (including its
own weight). Using 10mm diameter stirrups of 2 legs, determine the
required spacing near the support. fy=345 MPa and f'c=28 MPa

S=250 mm
6. A rectangular beam has the following dimensions:
bw=350mm; d=600mm
Assume:
f'c=20.7 MPa; fy=414 MPa.
Determine the required spacing using 10mm diameter bars for the
following Vu's"
1. Vu=60 kN
2. Vu=380 kN
3. Vu=710 kN
a. NO STIRRUP NEEDED
b. USE S=110 mm
c. THE BEAM SIZE IS NOT ADEQUATE; REVISE SECTION
