Thank you for your interested in running for the Associated Student Body Executive Board! The ASB
Executive Board is comprised of: ASB President, ASB Vice President, ASB Treasurer, ASB Secretary,
ASB Spirit Commissioner, ASB Inter-Club Council Commissioner, ASB Historian, ASB Awareness
Commissioner, Oly Nation Commissioner, Link Crew Commissioner, ASB Marking Manager, ASB
Technical Commissioner, Outreach Coordinator, Oly Pageant Coordinators (2), Fine Arts/Music
Commissioner, Sports Commissioner, and House of Representatives Commissioners (2). Please note:
ASB President, ASB Vice President, ASB Treasurer, and ASB Secretary are the only positions that are
elected positions. All other positions are appointed. Please see Mrs. Fisher in room 132 if you have
questions about this.

Being on ASB is an important job that requires a lot of time, effort, dedication and responsibility. It also is
very rewarding, gives you great memories, opportunities to have fun, and gets you involved in the school
and the decisions that affect every student. ASB officers are in charge of the school activities for the entire
year. Please read this packet carefully. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations will result in
disqualification. If you have and questions, please see ASB President Grant Lemons or Mrs. Fisher in
room 132 before or after school or during lunch. Be sure you know the deadlines and meet them. Thank
you for supporting your student body, your school, and for wanting to impact lives and change futures
here at Sprague High School!

ASB Officers must satisfy the following requirements to be a member of the ASB Executive Board:

• Must be a full time student at Sprague High School.


• Must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA starting with the March 12th (1st- 6 week grading period of
2010-2011( school year through the completion of the 2010-2011 school year. This will be determined as
the grade in the In-Touch Computer System at the time the packet is due.
• Must enroll and maintain enrollment in the ASB class (Student Executive Board) throughout the
2011-2012 school year. (This class will most likely be during 1st period, but with the the schedule change
this may be different.)
• Must attend all portions of summer leadership training. If you cannot attend this you may not be able to
join the class in the fall. This date will be established in April.
• Must attend Link Crew/New Oly Day.
• Must receive library clearance and Bookkeeper clearance or clearance from the Sprague
School Activities Director.
• Must return the ASB code of conduct signed by both student and parent/guardian, acknowledging the
reading this contract, ASB executive board standards and election rules.
• Must purchase an ASB card ($30) for the 2011-2012 school year. Opportunities for sponsorship are
available if this is financially impossible. Please talk to Mrs. Fisher or the 2011-2012 ASB President prior
to September 1, 2011.
• Must be ready to commit a lot of time and energy into keeping Sprague as the best school in the area.
• If previous enrolled in leadership, must have maintained a B or above in order to apply/run again.
• Must not have discipline issues and must be up-to-date with graduation credits.

Please read through carefully

I, the undersigned, solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will abide by the following Code of Conduct set forth
by Sprague High School. The following standards of eligibility, conduct, and responsibilities shall apply
to all members during their term of office. The term of office shall run from June 17th to June 15th of the
given school year.

I. Academic Achievement
• I will maintain an academic 2.0 grade point average starting with the 1st grading period of second
semester 2010-2011 school year through my entire term. This will be determined using the SASI System
at the time the election packet is due.
• If I receive less than a 2.0 GPA during a semester, I understand that there will be consequences and
limitations to my involvement in ASB. Receiving less than 2.0 could be cause for dismissal from office
by the administration of Sprague High School.
II. Behavioral Standards
• As a member of ASB, I realize that my conduct must be beyond reproach at all times, on and off
campus. (It is critical that you understand the full implications of this statement. Violation will result in
dismissal from office. Ask Mrs. Fisher if you need further explanation).
• I will uphold the constitution and my oath of office.
• I will cooperate with and support the ASB President, Activities Director and Sprague High School
Administration.
• I will abide by school dress regulations at all times.
• I will not carry nor use any illegal chemical substances or stimulants, drugs, alcohol, etc. at any time, on
and off campus.
• I will display good sportsmanship at all times and serve as an ambassador for Sprague High School at
other schools.
• I understand if I am suspended from Sprague High School, I may be suspended from ASB temporarily
or permanently, as determined by the Sprague High School Administration Team.
• Failure to comply with any of these rules may result in immediate removal from office as determined by
the Sprague High School Administration Team.
III. Leadership Class/Leadership Training
Leadership class is an essential part of ASB. Being a part of this class means you will constantly learn
how to improve your leadership skills. Leadership class will most likely meet during 1st period.

2. Job Specific Creation


In ASB you will be expected to plan and implement a number of activities depending on your position. Below
you will find the position you are running for and a specific activity/presentation you must create for the
interview panel. Please see Mrs. Fisher if you have any questions about this:

ASB President
Task: Run an assembly, a meeting,or a leadership break-out session
Instructions: Three of your major responsibilities include emceeing assemblies, running executive
budget/voting meetings, and helping Mrs. Fisher implement various leadership trainings/curriculum.
Gather a group of people together to either plan and implement an assembly or a meeting or put together a
leadership break-out session for the panel.

The ASB. President of Sprague High School must have at least one year of Student Council experience in high
school (grades 10-12) prior to running for office. The ASB President shall prepare the agenda and preside over for
all Council meetings. He/She shall also be in charge of planning the calendar of Student Council events for the
school year. If the ASB President considers an issue sufficiently important, he/she may call a special meeting where
all members of the ASB. Cabinet shall meet to decide on the issue. He/She is responsible for conducting all school
assemblies. The ASB President will be responsible of assigning all committees for the year’s events. The ASB
President shall cooperate with the school administration and faculty. He/She will represent our school in inter-school
activities and shall assist in maintaining friendly relations with other schools. He/She shall perform any other duties
related to this office.

DUTIES:
1. Serve as the primary student representative for Sprague High School.
2. Serve as Chairperson for all ASB. Student Council business meetings.
3. Prepare the agenda for all ASB Student Council business meetings according to the associate
student body’s theme and directional theme.
4. Determine and communicate to the Council the process for agenda requests.
5. Serve as Chairperson of the ASB. Executive Council.
6. Serve as Chairperson for all ASB dances.
7. Serve as the Chairperson for yearly ASB award Ceremony.
8. Serve as the Master of Ceremonies at designated all-school assemblies.
9. Serve as the Chairperson of the Summer Leadership Retreat.
10. Understand and use the privileged “veto” power effectively.
11. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.

ASB Vice President
Task: Run an assembly, a meeting,or a leadership break-out session
Instructions: The ASB Vice President plays an integral role in supporting the ASB President. The ASB
Vice President emcees assemblies, supports the ASB President in running meetings, and supports Mrs.
Fisher in implementing leadership break-out sessions and curriculum. Gather a group of people together
to either plan and implement an assembly or a meeting or put together a leadership break-out session for
the panel.

The ASB Vice President shall work cooperatively with the ASB President and shall assume the office of
ASB President in case of absence. He/She is in charge of running all elections during their elected term.
The ASB Vice President will also assist the ASB President in planning the calendar of Student Council
events of the year. The ASB Vice-President is second in the Chain of Command and is Co-Chairperson of
the ASB Executive Council.

DUTIES:
1. Assume the ASB Presidential position and responsibilities upon the absence of the elected
ASB President.
2. Serve as the secondary student representative for Sprague High School.
3. Serve as Co-Chairperson for all ASB Student Council business meetings.
4. Organize the yearly Council installation and recognition of the outgoing Council (“the ASB
Passing-of-the-Torch”).
5. Serve as the Co-Chairperson of the Summer Leadership Retreat.
6. Understand and use the privileged “veto” power effectively.
7. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.
8. Use and maintain working notebook.
QUALIFICATIONS:

ASB Secretary
Task: Create an agenda for a meeting
Instructions: One of the major roles of the ASB Secretary is to work with the Activities Director/ASB
President to run executive and budget meetings. It is your responsibility to keep the minutes and
distribute them to Mrs. Fisher and the Administrative Team. Create an agenda for a meeting including the
following: budget update, voting on the minutes from previous meeting, plans for new Battle of the
Sexes assembly.

The Associated Student Body (A.S.B.) Secretary is the primary student in charge of records
for A.S.B. Student Council meetings and activities. The A.S.B. Secretary is in charge of all A.S.B.
elections. The A.S.B. Secretary is fourth in the Chain of Command and a member of the A.S.B. Executive
Council.

DUTIES:
1. Prepare and distribute the Student Council Roster.
2. Maintain minutes for all A.S.B. business meetings, making sure they are prepared and ready to be
distributed at each business meeting.
3. Organizes the process for nominating Homecoming court.
4. Plans and organizes the Homecoming Game entertainment. This usually includes the
introduction of the Queens and their fathers before the varsity game announcing the
Homecoming King and Queen at half-time
5. Serve as a member of the A.S.B. Executive Council.
6. Plans, coordinates, and referees Freshman Elections. Identifies candidates and assists them in their
campaigns.
7. Finds candidates for A.S.B. President and Vice President and assists them in their campaigns.
8. Plan and act as M.C. for the annual Elections Convention and Elections Assembly. Organize and
implement the elections process for these elections.
9. Find candidates for Senior, Junior, Sophomore President and Vice-President for the Class Elections.
Should assist and instruct them in their campaigns. Organizes and implements the election process for
these elections.
10. Find Candidates for the A.S.B. appointed positions. Instructs them on the petitioning process. Presides
over the selection process for these officers.
11. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.
Use and maintain working notebook.
Work closely with Oly Pageant Coordinators to count and maintain the records of money for the Oly
Pageant.
Oversees/plans voting including: Homecoming, Prom, ASB Elections
QUALIFICATIONS:

ASB Treasurer
Task: Design a budget
Instructions: Create a budget for ASB based on the following scenario: The Activities Director has told
you that you will need to prepare the budget for the school year with her. You will need to be prepared in
advanced for this meeting. You have been notified that ASB has $9,000.00 to run all assemblies,
activities, and dances for the school year. You must remember that some of our biggest activities include:
Homecoming Week, Hoover, Winter Spirit Week, Clash of the Classes, Battle of the Sexes, Prom, and Oly
Luau, and Senior Recognition Week. The Freshman class as $50.00, the Sophomore class has $100.00,
the Junior class has $300.00, and the Senior class has $800.00. Create a budget using this information.

ASB Treasurer

The treasurer shall keep the council posted on budgetary matters and shall keep a list of different
organizations and their financial status. At the beginning of the school year he/she will prepare a budget
for the Student Activity Fund. In addition, the A.S.B. Treasurer shall work cooperatively with the school
secretary in charge of Student Activity accounts.
DUTIES:
1. Prepare and present a weekly treasurers report for the weekly business meetings.
2. Oversee the sale of all dance tickets.
3. Assist the Director of Student Activities in the maintenance of the bank.
4. Responsible for presenting fundraising ideas to the Student Council, and then carrying out those
plans if the idea is passed.
5. Responsible for maintaining the flow of revenue for the A.S.B. for activities benefiting the
student body.
6. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.
7. Use and maintain working notebook.
QUALIFICATIONS:

job until your final grading period.

Spirit Commissioner
Task: Create an outline of your ideal assembly.
Directions: Create an outline of a major assembly and justify why you arranged the assembly the way that
you did. Also, be prepared to answer what planning needs to go into the design and implementation of
the assembly.

The Spirit Commissioner shall work cooperatively with school administration, the student council and
advisor to plan and organize school assemblies and is responsible for helping in the organization of pep
assemblies. The Spirit Commissioner will also be in charge of keeping old traditions and coming up with
new traditions.
DUTIES:
- Plan all spirit weeks
- Decide upon spirit day themes
- Recruit bands to play during lunchtime
- Plan lunchtime activities
- Work with Class Council to get participants for spirit competitions during lunchtime
- Form and chair a Spirit Competition committee
- Attend and help organize the Game of the Week (GOW’s)
- Plan periodic lunchtime spirit activities
- Notify staff and publicize lunchtime spirit activities
- Participate on various A.S.B. committees
-Participate in all A.S.B activities
-Coordinate and direct all rehearsals prior to the rally
QUALIFICATIONS:

ASB Inter-Club Council Commissioner
Task: Create the first ICC Meeting Agenda and one advertisement for a club of your choice.
Directions: This new position will be quite the undertaking. It is your responsibility to run monthly
meetings with club advisors/representatives, support officially ASB sanctioned clubs through advertising
and other communication. Create an advertisement showcasing a club of your choice and put together a
meeting agenda for the first ever Inter-Club Council meeting for all of the clubs. Be sure to justify why
you chose what you did for the first meeting.

The Inter-Club Council is the ASB’s connection with the various organizations on campus.
The Inter-Club Council Chair organizes and oversees monthly meetings with representative from every
chartered organization and club. Part of the responsibilities of this representatives is to help make
decisions regarding rules and regulations, share ideas about fundraising events, talk about club accounts,
and communicate with their respective clubs. At inter-club meetings, the representatives will get
information about upcoming food faires, receive information on club training, discuss issues that are
important to clubs, and communicate amongst each other to see the progress made by the clubs over the
year.

DUTIES:
Set procedures for formal club recognition.
Ensure that the formal club recognition process has been successfully completed.
Maintain current records of club’s constitutions and organizational lists.
Maintain a current phone list of all club representatives.
Maintain the club lists board located in the Commons.
Administer budgetary policies of the Inter-Club Council.
Set appropriate budgetary policies for the Inter-Club Council.
Set budgetary meeting for all clubs in the spring.
Help determine the Inter-Club Council and club budgets per fiscal year (in spring).
Set a club information meeting the first month of the school year.
Set any policies or procedures to assist in the execution of any of the named duties and responsibilities.
Organize advertising requests from clubs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ASB Historian
Task: Take pictures of an event and either prepare a facebook page or a scrapbook.
Instructions: This job will require you to be flexible and support many positions. When it comes to an
event, your job will require you to get behind the lens and take pictures/video of events we throw. Put
together either a facebook page or a scrapbook. Showcase your photography/videography skills by
putting together a sample facebook page with captions or a scrapbook. The scrapbook can be an online
scrapbook.

DUTIES:
-Compiles ASB memory book for the year (distributed at banquet)
-Keep up facebook page/update with photos/tag people
-Keep files of ASB minutes, agendas, financial reports
-Take photos and/or video at events
-To create a school wide scrapbook (AND an ASB scrapbook)
-To take photographs at all assemblies and school events.
-Read daily newspapers and clip Los Al stories
-Coordinate schedule for each ASB member to take photos
-Save photos on computer for eventual multiyear slide show
-Assist Publicity as needed
-Classroom deliveries (take a photo?)
-Host Scrap booking club twice a month
-Photograph dance entry (or delegate)
-Will assist with Mr. Griffin
-Will assist with all dances

ASB Awareness Commissioner
Task: Identify one area where Sprague High School should be aware. Create a program that addresses
this issue.
Instructions: The major role of the ASB Awareness Commissioner is to plan events every 6 weeks that
make the Sprague Student Body aware. Plan and implement an awareness program and present it to the
panel. Be sure to include what thoughts you had in the planning and implementation process and why
your event would benefit Sprague High School

DUTIES:
-Promote diversity and on-campus unity
-Support cultural exchange programs
-Promote cultural holidays
-Aid in the creation of new clubs, programs, activities, and assemblies that promote tolerance of all
diverse groups
-Work closely with the commissioner of clubs and the commissioners of rallies and spirit to include all
diverse groups of people in school sponsored activities
-Aid Administration with Middle School Visitations
-Promote awareness events on campus every six weeks

QUALIFICATIONS:

Oly Nation Commissioner
Task: Plan a recognition for an underrepresented group on campus or for a teacher.
Instructions: The Oly Nation Commissioner has one of the hardest tasks because this person must be the

or acknowledge everyone and there is an air of eliteism. In order to try to eliminate this, we need a strong
person who is willing to reach out to groups and recognize them! Pick an underrepresented group or a
teacher on campus and recognize them before the panel (note: you will not need to actually bring in the
teacher/group of students,)

Oly Nation Commissioner is a position that would best suit a highly conscientious student. This student is
in charge of creating a welcoming and inviting community on campus. A person with attention to detail,
outside the box thinking, a strong sense of organization and deadlines as well as, an eye for graphic
design would best be suited for this position.

DUTIES:
-Organize new student transition team to welcome new students, provide tours to students, and follow-up
on students
-Organize volunteer organizations and ASB to assist at Back to School Night
-Write “Thank You” notes to teacher and staff on campus for all events
- Organize and facilitate Teacher Appreciation in April
-Organize “Teacher Birthdays” throughout the year
-Recognize teachers in creative ways for SHS regularly.

Task: Plan an event that connects Link Leaders and their Freshman during the school year.
Instructions: The Link Crew Coordinator is busiest during the first weeks of school. Your job is to assist
Mrs. Fisher is supervising and training the Link Crew Leaders. This is the easier part of the job. The part
that has not been implemented, which will be your focus this year, is to continue the support of freshman
throughout the school year. Plan an event that connects Link Leaders and their Freshman during the
school year.

ASB Marketing Manager
Task: Create an advertisement for the Homecoming Spirit Week
Instructions: Advertising and make or break an organization. The ASB Marketing Manager will be
responsible for creating/running facebook advertisements for all events, maintain the activities website,
and create graphic posters/tickets for events. Create an advertisement for Homecoming 2011. Be sure to
include a ticket. The theme is up to you for this scenario.

DUTIES:

-Create a school climate where students are kept informed of all upcoming events
-Create and maintain any and all facebook pages/events necessary for advertisement
-Create graphics/posters/suggestions for t-shirts
-Create tickets
-Promote interest in all school activities on campus and community levels
-Responsible for all signs, posters, and displays of all upcoming school events
-Work with Leadership to update the front marquee at least once a week, with information concerning

Task: Create a slideshow or video for an event
Instructions: The ASB Technical Commissioner will need to be versatile with the ability to set-up sound
equipment, edit music for dances/assemblies, create slide-shows for various events, and support video
productions. Create a slideshow or a video for an event of your choice (Homecoming, Battle of the
Sexes, Prom, Luau)

The A.S.B. Technical Commissioner is responsible for all technical aspects of the events
that are organized by the Associated Student Body. This includes delegating the set up of all equipment
including the sound system, microphones, podiums, flags, and chairs.

DUTIES:
1. Run/supervise the sound system at all school functions when requested.
2. Responsible for the maintaining all equipment owned by A.S.B., and the music library.
3. Responsible for updating the equipment and the music library.
4. Supervise the scheduling of the usage of the sound system.
5. Oversee the set-up and take down of the sound system.
6. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.
7. Responsible for creating/setting up all slideshows/videos necessary for events.
8. Edit music for assemblies and dances.

Task: Design a community service event that the leadership class must complete.
Instructions: The Outreach Coordinator is focused on service. One of the major jobs is serving the local
elementary school Hoover and running our newest initiative “The Oly Foundation.” Your job will also be
to help inspire your fellow leaders to service. Create a service project that the leadership class could
realistically accomplish together. Provide your thoughts and justification.

DUTIES:

-Maintain Oly Angel’s closet


-Recruit sponsors/funding for service oriented programs
-Organize and run the Hoover Gift Drive in December
-Plan a service oriented event once every six week grading period

Oly Pageant Coordinators
Task: Imagine that this was the first year Sprague High School offered Oly Pageant. Design the Pageant
Program and Pageant Show.
Instructions: The Oly Pageant is the largest event Sprague High School hosts. It requires you to be able
to manage/advise your peers, work closely with an advisor, and reach out to other staff members. Imagine
that this was the first year Sprague High School offered Oly Pageant. Design the Pageant Program and
Pageant Show. This position is open to one male and one female.

The Oly Pageant Coordinators have the largest undertaking next to the ASB President. One male and one
female will organize and run the entire program. In years past the pageant has raised upwards of
30,000.00 for Doernbecher’s Hospital. This position requires organized, self-starters. OP Coordinators
must feel comfortable running meetings supervising their peers, comfortable with fundraising, and must
be available on a weekly basis to support events/planning. The Pageant comes to its culmination with a
show in April. Plan to be committed to this program starting immediately through May 2012.

DUTIES:
-Help with selection of candidates
-Organize pageant contestants and assist in fundraising starting in November
-Support Pageant contestants in fundraising iniativies

Fine Arts/Music Commissioner
Task: Create an event that incorporates both the fine arts and music.
Instructions: Sprague High School has many talented young artists and musicians that are often
overlooked. It is your job to be their voice and to make sure they are represented in our events. Create an
event that incorporates both the fine arts and music.

The Fine Arts/Music Commissioner works to increase cultural awareness and inner-cultural
understanding through education in the MD community. These commissioners coordinate two cultural
assemblies and fairs each year and work to promote the Fine Arts programs by use of posters and
advertisements on campus.

DUTIES:
-Organize and run meetings between the Fine Arts/Music Teachers/Advisors and representatives from the
program once every six weeks
-Organize and run an awareness event that honors the Arts/Music
-Publicize and coordinate Fine Arts/Music calendar
-Recruit ASB and students to attend performances, shows, etc.
-Recognize accomplishments of fine arts groups (announcements/torch/recognition wall/assemblies)
-Will assist in organizing cash boxes/tickets for various activities

Activities Assistant

Task: Trouble shoot on the spot a number of errors that Mrs. Fisher draws to your attention.
Instructions: This position is the most challenging. This position requires someone who can keep up with
a fast pace, works well in emergency/last minute situations. Because this job requires you to fill in where
necessary (essentially serve as Mrs. Fisher’s right hand man/woman), the task you will receive will be on
the spot.

The Activities Assistant serves as Mrs. Fisher (Activities Director) right hand man/woman. There are two
positions open. Mainly this person directly assists Mrs. Fisher with all events/assemblies. This person
must be reliable and must be able to act quickly and calmly under pressure. This job requires a person
who is flexible and creative. This person will often be the first person to arrive and the last to leave. This
position requires someone who is willing to step in when needed (and often without being asked).

DUTIES:

-Serve as the direct line of communication during assembles and events between all responsible

Athletics Commissioner
Task: Choose a sporting event and plan a night/afternoon where leadership supports a sports team.
Instructions: We are blessed to have amazing athletic programs. One area where our leadership team is
weak is supporting all sports programs. Pick a sport of your choice and create a program in which the
leadership team supports the athletics program. Be sure to provide an outline with what the leadership
students will do during the game and at half time.

The Athletics Commissioner is the sole person responsible for representing the Athletic Department to the
A.S.B. Student Council.
DUTIES:
1. Serve as the primary Athletic Department liaison to the A.S.B. Student Council.
2. Serve as an assistant to the Vice-President who is responsible for the yearly Activity Points and
awards.
3. Responsible for daily reports/updates of athletic events.
4. Responsible for organizing Intra-murals.
5. Attend daily leadership class and weekly business meetings.
6. Use and maintain working notebook.
7. Organize and run sports nights hosted by the leadership for all athletic events.
8. Organizing and maintain a list of leadership attendance at sports games.

House of Representatives Commissioners
Task: Gather evidence from five different groups on campus and prepare a presentation to the ASB
Executive Council on the feedback of the students.
Instructions: This new position is open to two people. This will require you to communicate with people
you do not know. You will serve as a liaison between elected members from one class period once a
month and the ASB/Governing Board Group. Create a question to ask five different groups of people on
campus. Prepare a presentation of your findings to the ASB Executive Council on the feedback given.

The House of Representatives consists of one elected member from each second period class (this is
subject to change). Period two teachers nominate three students from which the class will vote for one to
represent them in the House. The House of Representatives meets approximately once a month and serves
the following purposes:
1) Recommend activities and fundraisers to the ASB Senate.
2) Serve in an advisory role for activities and projects undertaken by ASB Senate.
3) Request services of ASB Senate.
4) Assist in campus beautification projects.
5) Serve as a liaison to all period two classes and to elicit the opinion of the general student body.

It is the responsibilities of the House of Representatives Commissioner to organize and run the monthly
meetings and report back to the ASB/Governing Board group.

DUTIES:
