1. What are the new features of the latest grading system?

What are you required to do with this new grading

system which you were not asked before?
 In the full implementation of face-to-face classes, teachers are required to use the guidelines anchored
to DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015 titled Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for k to 12 Basic
Education Program, wherein in Junior High Schools, TLE subject teachers follow the 20% for written
works, 60% for performance tasks, and 20% for quarterly examination. In the current situation, when
the students have difficulties in reaching an average grade of 75, teachers help them by doing home
visitations and intervention activities related to the subjects.

2. Which do you prefer- the old or the new grading system? Why?
 Based on my experiences, I prefer using the new grading system because the TLE subject focuses
more on hands-on activities and real-life situations so having 60% in the grading system helps the
students to be more globally competitive.

3. How do you give feedback to your students regarding their performance? When do you give feedback?
 In the evaluation and learning process, feedback is used to help students perform better. In order to
improve their learning progress, learners who receive effective feedback are helped to reflect on their
own learning and learning practices. As their TLE teacher, I gave feedback by showing their scores or
grades individually providing some positive comments and suggestions that may help them to perform
well next activity. They also have their “record sheet” in which they can easily see their scores right
away.

4. How do you report students’ performance to parents? Does the school have a regular way of reporting grades
to parents?
 One way of reporting the students’ grades is by conducting a homeroom meeting or distribution of
cards every quarter wherein parents can see the performance of their child in school.

5. What problems with grade reporting did you encounter with parents? How did you address it/them?
 I am only two years in public school and based on the previous distribution of cards I haven’t
encountered any problems in grade reporting with parents. But when I encounter that situation, I
explain the records of his/her child calmly and professionally.

6. How to address the needs of diverse students due to the:

-Gender including LGBT
 I promote all genders working together in activities and let them show their identity in class. As their
teacher, I give their needs equally and have no bias at all. I give them an environment where they can
freely express themselves.
-Language and cultural differences
 Since, my advisory class is really composed of diverse learners because more of them come from
different localities and provinces; I give them guidance that they can speak their own language or
mother tongue. Moreover, I help them learn to socialize with their classmates and provide multiple
forms of assessments based on their needs.
-Differences in religion
 I encourage all my students to participate in opening/closing prayers and thanksgiving mass in school,
but when one of them doesn’t want to participate because he/she comes from another religion I let
them not to participate as a respect to their beliefs.
-Socio-economic status
 I always remind my students that socio-economic status or poverty is never a hindrance to anyone.
There are lots of ways to stop it. For the working students, I let them work only once a week to support
their financial needs. As a canteen manager, I also give a cash assistance where they can be an
assistant in the school canteen and give them free snacks, lunch, and 100 peso per day.
