“RORO JONGGRANG, PRAMBANAN TEMPLE”

Once upon a time, stood a great kingdom called Prambanan. People of the Prambanan
Kingdom’s lived prosperously and peacefully under the leadership of the king named Prabu
Baka. The small kingdoms around the Prambanan Kingdom were obedient and respected to
King Baka's leadership. Meanwhile, in other areas there is one kingdom that is powerful as like
the Prambanan Kingdom, which is Pengging Kingdom. The kingdom looks so arrogant and
always want to expand its territory. The Pengging Kingdom had a strong knight named
Bondowoso. He has a very powerful weapon named Bandung, so he is known as Bandung
Bondowoso. Beside have strong weapons, Bandung Bondowoso also has army troops called
jinn. He use Jin to help him to attack other kingdoms and fulfill all his desires. Once King
Pengging ordered Bandung Bondowoso to attack the Prambanan Kingdom. The next day,
Bandung Bondowoso called all Jin and went to the Prambanan Kingdom.
After arrive in the Prambanan Kingdoms, Bandung Bondowoso and his troops
immediately stormed into the Prambanan Kingdom. Without any preparation, Raja Baka and
his troops were in lose, cause King Baka and his troops die. Finally Bandung Bondowoso
successfully occupied the Prambanan Kingdom. The news of Bondowoso to became the winner
was heard by Pengging King and felt very happy. Pengging King also sent Bandung
Bondowoso to occupy the Prambanan Kingdom and take care of all the contents inside the
Kingdom, including King Baka's family. When Bandung Bondowoso occupied the Prambanan
palace, he saw a beautiful woman. The woman is the daughter of Prabu Baka named Roro
Jonggrang. Bandung Bondowoso fall in love with Roro Jonggrang when he saw in the first
time. Without thinking, Bandung Bondowoso asked Roro Jonggrang and proposed. "O
beautiful Roro Jonggrang, will you to be my queen?" Asked Bandung Bondowoso to Roro
Jonggrang. Hearing this question made Roro Jonggrang speechless and confused. She hate to
see Bandung Bondowoso who killed his father whom he loved so much. But she also afraid to
reject the Bandung Bondowoso request. Finally, after thinking for a long time, she found a way
for Bandung Bondowoso not to marry her. "Well, I accept your request, Bandung Bondowoso.
But you should fulfill one requirements from me. "Answer Roro Jonggang. "What kind of your
requirement Roro Jonggrang? asked Bandung Bondowoso. "Make me a thousand temples and

two wells in one night". Reply Roro Jonggrang. Hearing the requirements given by Roro
Jonggrang, Bandung Bondowoso immediately agreed. The requirements that Roro Jonggrang
gave, he considered very easy because he had a large army of jinn and would help him.
In the evening, Bandung Bondowoso gathered all of his Jinn troops. In a short time, all
the troops had gathered. After hearing orders from Bandung Bondowoso, all his troops
immediately built a well and built a thousand temples very quickly. Seeing the speed of the
Bandung Bondowoso army in building temples and making wells, made Roro Jonggrang feel
scared and uneasy. In two-thirds of the night, there were only three temples left and one well
unfinished. Roro jonggrang thought hard about how to frustrate the construction of the temple
and make it not to married with Bandung Bondowoso. If these conditions are not met, of course
their marriage will not be carried out. Roro Jonggang thought very hard to frustrate it. After
thinking hard, finally she get a very brilliant idea. She will make the atmosphere like in the
morning, so the jinns will stop making temples because it is already morning. Roro Jonggrang
went to gather the ladies in the Prambanan palace. The were given the task of burning straw,
sounding dimples and sprinkling flowers. Hearing Roro Jonggrang's orders, the ladies
immediately set fire to some straw. Then, the sky appeared reddish and dimples began to sound.
The sweet smell of the flower was spread out and made the chickens start crowing. Seeing the
reddish sky, dimples ringing and the sweet scent of flowers, made the Jin of Bandung
Bondowoso go to leave work. They think that the day has begun morning, and they should
leave immediately. Seeing the army go off made Bandung Bondowoso angry and said "Hi, my
army, its not yet morning. Come back and finish building this temple! " Bandung Bondowoso
ordered his troops to return and finish. Because it was’nt yet morning, and it was all of Roro
Jonggrang's doing to create an atmosphere like in the morning. But the Jin still left and ignored
his order. Bandung Bondowoso was very upset and completed the rest of the temple
construction by himself. But before Bandung Bondowoso finished building the rest of the
temple, it was already morning. Bandung Bondowoso also failed to meet the requirements
given by Roro Jonggrang to marry her.
Knowing the failure of Bandung Bondowoso for making a thousand temples and two
wells, made Roro Jonggrang very happy and approached Bandung Bondowoso. She said "You
failed to meet my requirements, Bandung Bondowoso." Hearing Roro Jonggrang's words made
Bandung Bondowoso more angry. With a loud tone Bandung Bondowoso said "You are
cheating Roro Jonggrang. It was your fault, who foiled the construction of a thousand temples
that I was building. For that reason, I curse you to be the statue that is in the thousandth temple
!!! "Bandung Bondowoso shouted in a loud tone. With the supernatural power of Bandung
Bondowoso, Roro Jonggang became the thousandth statue of the Thousand Temples that he
required to Bandung Bondowoso. The thousand temples are in Prambanan Temple, and the
statue of Roro Jonggrang is known as the Roro Jonggrang temple among a thousand other
temples that are named sewu temples.
