NARRATIVE REPORT

We were asked to conduct an interview for the compliance to our acitivity in

Purposive Communication. Our tasks were to give the highlights and lowlights of our

aimed profession, Architecture. I decided to conduct this interview with Architect Maria

Zandra Abad, our professor in Theory of Architecture 2.

Architect Abad was a board exam passer in 2013, currently working as a

professor in University of Nueva Caceres. She is currently working as a freelance

architect and working for an online international company, KSWG Consultant, based in

Hong Kong. She was able to work as a contractor so she began to work in sites and

constructions. She invest most of her time in improving her designing skills, which is the

main component and asset in architecture. Moreover, upon improving her skills in

designing, she has grown her own signature concepts, which are tropical designs, in her

current projects on resorts and hotels.

Working as an architect with some allied professionals may be degrading,

especially some of what she mentioned would put a lot of pressure on you especially

those co-workers that are hot tempered, but most architects she has been with are

really considerate and patient. This kind of working environment is where she got to

enhance what she initally have and work her way to improve, develop new skills, and

grow in her profession. Same as with her workplace here in the university, it molded

her to become organized. She do this by preparing lectures, creating a list, and trying

her best to fit everything in her schedule. She said time management is hard especially

with loads of school works, site projects, and a family in hand. As a result, this affects

her health, greatly. She’s sleep deprived and said it is not new to her. It is a good thing

that she became immune with pressure and the sleepless nights when working for the

company, the university, and spending time with her family. But because of this, she is

able to live a stable life. None of those luxurious or grandiose life, but rather you will

always get something from the profession. She sets aside extra financial help that for

emergencies. She also adviced to have a stable job first, then do freelance work

because sometimes what you get from work is not enough.

Architect abad stated that being an architect is really exciting because you don’t

know what’s ahead, new projects, innovation, and technical designs. But all right after

the pressure, is the prize of getting you design approved. She’s happy for she’s living a

stable life with her aimed profession and a family she loves.

I as an aspiring architect aims to do my best from the conducted interview.

Architect Abad gave me insights and the motivation to strive harder. The pressure may

be present but the end result is fullfilling.
