AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): (slightly took a deep breath) Good afternoon, my name is AR. Paula Ilustre.
I live in Mandaluyong. As far as my education qualification is concerned, I graduated from Rizal
Technological University with Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 2019. I was able to work as an intern
in Casas Designs for two years and during that time I assisted our Head Architect to handle different projects
in NCR region. Most of our projects included commercial and residential buildings. Designing and planning
spaces is my greatest passion in life and during my spare time I go to our local library to research and study
more about various innovations in our field. I also like to be physically active, go to adventures such as
hiking, twice a month. I am an optimistic person and it’s always been easy for me to work in teams. I also
have a skill in architectural software applications such as AutoCAD, Revit, Sketch Up, Lumion and other
rendering tools which I believe will be very helpful in the role I am applying for.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): How do you describe your work style as an architect?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): I am a collaborative team player, competitive communicator, and creative
thinker. I have high respect with schedules and deadline. I can also work with minimal supervision. I’ve
always had a sense of urgency about how I approach my work. I think that if I put off doing something, it
will eventually take me longer to complete. I was in charged with producing renderings for a new building
design during my last internship. I immediately got to work on tasks so that I could turn and finish them
before the deadline. My supervisor provided me input on my designs and praised my willingness to get
started early.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): (lean on the table) What do you like most about architecture?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): Architecture has been a great part of my childhood; my late father was an
Architect and I grew up familiar with his line of work. I appreciate how a design can provide shelter,
comfort and even inspire people. It is a significant part of our history and has a big impact on the lives of
every individual, it is an identity and a proof of what kind of life we want to live each day. The ability to
create and design an architecture is a blessing anyone would be thankful for.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): What qualities make you a great architect?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): I am a hardworking, passionate, creative and skilled individual. From my
internship experiences I have learned a lot with my department which I am glad to share, apply and improve
with your company. Becoming an architect requires more than visualization and passion, you also need to
be business-minded, versatile, and have a wide range of relevant skills and knowledge. Only when an
architect possesses all these necessary traits while interacting with clients and other authorities can a project
be done accordingly.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): (sips coffee) What significant challenges did you face during your internship
and how did you manage?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): One of the biggest challenges I have faced from my previous role was lack
of cooperation from other departments involved in construction. Without cooperation from them, we had a
tough time as architects to achieve our design. I was able to manage that, by choosing the right team to
work with from each department involved in construction. By creating a team, I trust, I was able to focus
on specific tasks and people to get our projects done and through team work, we were able to complete our
tasks on a timely manner.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): What makes you a good fit for this firm?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): I believe I possess the skills and experiences that you're looking for. I'm
pretty confident that I am the best candidate for this job role. It's not just my background in the past projects,
but also my people skills, which will be applicable in the position I’m applying for. I also have two years
internship experience in designing and using software applications which focuses on planning, designing
and drafting structures and buildings and these qualities can add value to the company, protecting its image
and safeguarding its assets. I also feel I am a good fit because I have experience in participating to various
projects that is similar to what your company offers to its clients.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): What is your expectation from Carlo Calma Consultancy?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): I can only expect for the best, your firm is well-known in harnessing
Filipino skills, ingenuity and craftsmanship. You also continue to produce works of quality, excellence and
with attention to details just like how I aspire to be. I have witnessed this company's excellently constructed
structures and its services to other businesses. I want this firm to teach me new things and help me develop
my talents. I must admit that, despite having good talents in architecture, I am not there yet. I need to
improve my abilities and become a better version of myself and I know that this company would help me
grow professionally.
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): What types of projects could you see yourself working on?
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): I am an expert when it comes to Modern designs. Inspired by industrialism,
progress and transparency. I also believe in the saying that what usually hidden must be visible that is very
evident through the residential projects of your firm.
(The interviewer smiled and reached his hand and offered a professional, firm handshake to the interviewee)
AR. Juan Calma (interviewer): Thank you for being participative in this interview, we will contact you
within the next 24-36 hours after reviewing your profile and doing further deliberation.
AR. Paula Ilustre (Interviewee): Thank you, Architect for this opportunity! I will also look forward to hear
from you.
(The Interviewee also reached her hand and accept the offered handshake by the interviewer)
(Ar. Paula smiled then exit the room)
With determination in Ar. Ilustre’s heart, she hopes that the interview opens an opportunity towards her
passion. (THE END)
