WHAT IS THE READATHON?


Pratham USA Readathon encourages
children in the US to read books while giving
them the opportunity to help less fortunate
children in India learn to read.

Your small but significant contributions


through the Readathon will enable Pratham
to continue providing educational content
and virtual outreach to underprivileged

OUR PROGRAMS
WHAT IS PRATHAM?
In 1995 Pratham was founded to ensure that every
child has access to a quality education.

Across India in 2019, Pratham enabled:


- 16.6 million underprivileged children build
foundational skills in reading, writing and counting.
LITERACY AND LEARNING SECOND CHANCE
- 26,000 underserved youth acquire vocational skills
to get entry level jobs in 7 industries.

-3,700 disadvantaged women get a second chance


to earn their high school diploma.

Pratham USA is a 501(c)(3) charity with 14 chapters


in the United States that raise awareness and
mobilize financial resources for Pratham’s work in

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Register for Pratham USA Readathon 2020

WHAT DOES A
COORDINATOR DO?

Readathon Coordinators read books and


raise funds, and they also:

› Lead teams of three or more readers.


› Recruit readers for their team.
› Assist readers as and when needed.
› Motivate readers and monitor their
team’s progress.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A MENTOR?

Mentors lead the Readathon in their community. They


are responsible for:

› Recruiting readers, coordinators and sponsors.


› Setting fundraising goals for their chapters.
› Conducting in-person and digital outreach,
and building awareness of the program.

› Identifying sponsors to boost or match donations.


And most importantly, mentors ensure the success of
their respective Chapter’s Readathon by motivating
readers, coordinators and parents!

With Pratham's Teaching at the Right


Level methodology, an underprivileged
child in India can learn how to read
within 40 days.

TIPS FOR READATHON MENTORS
Here are some ideas for running a successful Readathon:
› USE the Readathon platform and get familiar with it.
› CONTACT parents and groups likely to be interested.
› PLAN a Readathon Kick-Off Event (maybe virtual this year).
› CONNECT with other Readathon Mentors to share ideas.
› ENCOURAGE Readers and Coordinators to Read and Reach
Out.

› CELEBRATE Success and Thank Everyone involved.
