The United Nations was established after a disastrous war to help

maintain international relations and give peace a more secure foundation. The United

Nations is an intergovernmental organization that aims to maintain international peace

and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation,

and be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations. Before the United Nations

organization was formed, we lived in a world of uncertainty where any misunderstanding

could lead to a massive world war. Since the United Nations was formed, many issues

have been resolved and a number of new groups have been created to make the world

more peaceful

Today, the United Nations is an organization in a period of transition. The

Organization faced many issues and challenges like:

EXTREME POVERTY WORLDWIDE UNDER COVID-19

Before the pandemic, The United

Nations already faces the issue about the

poverty all over the world and the organization

already had some progress regarding about

the issue but today, The world faces a greater

challenge than any before as the COVID-19

pandemic threatens to undo years of progress in poverty. the pandemic was really a

downfall of many people around the world, it causes so much to each and everyone of us

such as loss of human life worldwide and presents a challenge to public health, food

systems and the loss of livelihoods. Some business establishments have no choice but

to close and cut off their employees, So without the means to earn an income during

lockdowns, many are unable to feed themselves and their families. For most, no income

means no food, or, at best, less food and less nutritious food that’s why the food security

and nutrition of millions of people are under threat with those in low-income countries,

particularly the most marginalized populations.

Some people with low, irregular incomes

and a lack of social support decided to continue

working, often in unsafe conditions, thus exposing

themselves and their families to additional risks just

so for them to have food to eat and for their families,

Some are vulnerable, because they face risks in

their transport, working and living conditions and struggle to access support measures

put in place by governments. Immediate and purposeful action to save lives and

livelihoods should include extending social protection towards universal health coverage

and income support for those most affected. Now is the time for global solidarity and

support, especially with the most vulnerable in our societies, particularly in the emerging

and developing world. Only together can we overcome the intertwined health and social

and economic impacts of the pandemic and prevent its adverse effects.

The United nation organization aims to develop long-term sustainable strategies

to address the challenges we are facing. “The pandemic and global recession may cause

over 1.4% of the world’s population to fall into extreme poverty,” said World Bank Group

President David Malpass. “In order to reverse this serious setback to development

progress and poverty reduction, countries will need to prepare for a different economy

post-COVID, by allowing capital, labor, skills, and innovation to move into new businesses

and sectors. World Bank Group support—across IBRD, IDA, IFC and MIGA—will help

developing countries resume growth and respond to the health, social, and economic

impacts of COVID-19 as they work toward a sustainable and inclusive recovery.”

As time passes by, Poverty leaves marks in many part of the world—malnutrition,

vulnerable to disease, missed schooling, it is really useful to look at the longer-term impact

of COVID-19 on poverty. Also the future impact of what we are doing now which serves

as a lesson for today’s challenges.

ECOLOGICAL CRISIS

Our problem in our environment is the most challenging and the most international

issue confronting the world community today. Aside from Covid-19 and poverty, The

United Nations is also facing issues regarding ecological crisis as ecosystems are

collapsing, biodiversity is disappearing, and oceans are acidifying. Even though the

slowdown in economic activity happen due to the pandemic that cause a drop in global

carbon emissions, we cannot escape the continuous effect of unchecked human activity

or go back to what we’ve done from pre-pandemic. This past year many things really

happen to us in this world like with record breakings wildfires, hurricanes, floods, and

droughts around the world. 2021 will be a decisive year for determining the health of our

planet for centuries to come.

Climate change features ecological crisis,

From shifting weather patterns that threaten food

production, to rising sea levels that increase the risk

of flooding, the impacts of climate change are global

in scope and extraordinary scale. the consequences or causes of climate change

constitute a threat to international peace and security.

Eventhough the United nations is challenged by this, they really responded to

worldwide concern with environmental issues. They created several programs such as

the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). UNEP has attempted to find

solutions to various environmental problems, including pollution in the Mediterranean

Sea; the threat to aquatic resources posed by human economic activity; deforestation,

desertification, and drought; the depletion of the Earth’s ozone layer by human-produced

chemicals; and global warming.

Obviously, the United Nation is here to guide every country, but still the solution is

in the hand of people who benefits the environment, we should be responsible enough in

order for us to have the healthy environment that we aim. I think what is happening in this

world right now is the effect of human activities, we usually abuse the benefits that we

receive from the environment, people tend to care only for themselves but not to our

environment.
Human Rights amidst Coronavirus global health emergency

Before the pandemic started, Human

rights is already an issue faced by the United

Nation, but in this kind of time, The United

nation strongly promotes human rights

especially because this time is vulnerable for

discrimination and violence all over the world.

International human rights law guarantees everyone the right to the highest attainable

standard of health and obligates governments to take steps to prevent threats to public

health and to provide medical care to those who need it. Careful attention to human rights

such as non-discrimination and human rights principles such as transparency and respect

for human dignity can foster an effective response

In view of today’s situation and to preserve life, countries have no choice but to

adopt extraordinary measures. Extensive lockdowns, adopted to slow transmission of the

virus, restrict by necessity freedom of movement and, in the process, freedom to enjoy

many other human rights. Such measures can inadvertently affect people’s livelihoods

and security, their access to health care (not only for COVID-19), to food, water and

sanitation, work, education – as well as to leisure.

Respect for human rights, including economic and social rights, and civil and

political rights, will be fundamental to the success of the public health response.
We know that United nation is there to guide and support every country but the

true solution for this is not with them nor the government, It’s in our hands, we should

know how to maximize everything what we have and what we can do. We can disciplined

ourselves, obviously change is in our hands. Let us help the United Nation organization

which aims nothing but everyone’s peace and safety.
