Saint Patrick day is one of the most famous public holidays.

It is celebrated all over the

World on 17 March in remembrance of Saint Patrick. It is originally a

Christian celebration because Saint Patrick was a missionary and saint in Ireland.

In Ireland, Saint Patrick´s Day is a national holiday.

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Heavenly advocate of Ireland.

He was born in the year 385 and died on March 17th around the year 460.

Saint Patrick had an adventurous life.

He was a British boy (16) who was captured as a slave by Irish pirates.

For many years he worked as a Shepard but then he escaped.

Saint Patrick broke on foot after six years of being in captivity and walked for over 200

miles from county Mayo to the Irish Coast after hearing the voice of God telling him that it

was time to leave Ireland. He boarded a ship and ended up in a Monastery in France.

Afterwards he wrote that he dreamed of an angel telling him to go back to Ireland to

spread Christianity to those who had not been converted and preach to those who had

already been converted to Christianity already.

After many years, when he became a bishop, he returned to Ireland to tell them about the Christian
religion.

He was the one who brought Christianity to the Irish.

He also taught many of the people of Ireland to read and write.

Saint Patrick used a three leafed plant called shamrock to explain about the Christian god, now that
plant is a famous symbol of Ireland.

Although St. Patrick's Day began in Ireland, it is celebrated in countries around the world.

Many people wear green on this day.

The color green symbolizes the color of the Irish clover plant leaves known as the

shamrock with which the Saint is believed to have used to explain the Holy Trinity, which

means, “the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit”.

Saint Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated with a parade.

The one in Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, is known to some as the Irish Mardi Gras.

The largest St.Patrick’s Day parade is in New York City. It lasts for hours.

Though it has always been celebrated for so many years, these previous celebrations have
always been a sort of low-key celebrations compared to what happens today.

Saint Patrick’s Day gained its pomp and color on 17 March 1762 by Irish soldiers in America who
were serving in the English military who marched through New York. The essence of the Irish soldiers
performing a parade with marching bands as a way of celebrating this day was because they wanted
to reconnect with their roots and keep touch with their traditions.

Saint Patrick day is celebrated as a way of marking the true Irish spirit for Irish people wherever they
are.

The day is a great attraction for both performers and spectators who line up the streets to watch the

Procession as it marches through the streets of towns and villages.

There are legends that go along with Saint Patrick’s Day.

According to legend, St. Patrick drove all the snakes in Ireland out of the country and into the sea.

A popular legend is about the leprechaun. Leprechauns are tiny people dressed in green and they
collect pots of gold.

The legend says that if you catch a leprechaun, he will lead you to his pot of gold.

Leprechauns hide their pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.

And if you are lucky enough to find a leprechaun, don´t take your eyes off him, because he´ll

disappear with his pot of gold.
