Dry Sieve Shaker

Application
It is used for carrying out the dry sieve analysis of a given sample of material.

Features
The speed of vibrating the sieve shaker can be regulated with the help of regulator provided with
the shaker.

Operation
A stack of selected sieve is made with the coarsest sieve on the top and finest at the bottom. All
the sieves should be of the same standard, e.g. American standard or British standard. A
weighted amount of the given sample is placed on the topmost sieve. The sieve shaker is
switched on and the material falls down as a result of shaking action. The purpose of vibrating
the sieves is not only to evenly expose each particle to the sieve apertures, but also to prevent
blinding the sieves i.e. blocking the sieve apertures by the near size particle of the sample. The
amount of sample retained on each sieve is then collected in plastic bags and weighted on a
sensitive balance preferably electronic. The sum of the fractions retained on all sieves must equal
to the total weight of the sample taken at the start. If it is less than the former, the total loss is
distributed on the fractions retained on all the sieves in accordance with the weight of the
sample.
