 Explain the five functions of community


The five functions of community are; 1) production, distribution, consumption in which
community provides its members with the means to make a living, this may be agriculture,
industry, or services. 2) Socialization which the community has means by which it instills its
norms and values in its members, this may be tradition, modeling, and/or formal education.
3) Social control, the community has the means to enforce adherence to community values, this
may be group pressure to conform and/or formal laws. 4) Social participation, the community
fulfills the need for companionship; this may occur in a neighborhood, church, business, or the
group. 5) Mutual support, the community enables its members to cooperate to accomplish tasks
too large or too urgent to be handled by a single person. These five functions of community
enable to influence the socialization of children growing up there.
 Describe how the community influences socialization
The community influences socialization in the neighborhood in which we grew up conjure up
rich imagery of what constitutes a sense of community. Part of that imagery of the
neighborhood in which we grow up involves how people lived there. Community is a socializing
agent because the children learn the role expectations for adults as well as for themselves, they
can observe, model, and become apprentices to adults in the community that children
socialization requires active involvement.
 Explain how the community serve as a support system and a learning environment
The community serves as a support system in which the community can provide informal
support to families, as when neighbors watch each other’s children or share resources or it can
provide formal support through its publicly or privately funded community services. Where
more people compete for available resources, more people need supportive services to survive-
job assistance, housing assistance, financial support, food subsidies, and medical care. Learning
community where the community is a setting that provides much potential for learning in which
children learns the art and technique of citizenship in real involvement of issues. To require also
the to perform community service in order to graduate.
