Brand Identity Case Study

As my interest is in the field of children’s photography I thought it would be best to find a

photographer who matches this because it not only gives me ideas for myself but also
allows me to realise what I might not want on my own platforms too. A local photographer
to me has a photography business called Kamara Photography who specializes in newborn
and cake smash so I have decided to take a look at her branding identity.

Design
Firstly I have found her logo which you can see below, I feel this is very elegant with the flow
of the text, the wording is finely written but still very much readable. Kimberly has used a
grey font which gives the logo a subtle approach and nothing to bold. I feel this works
actually in combine with the type of photography she does such as newborn etc, babies are
delicate little beings and her logo almost connects to her photography in that sense.

The colour themes Kimberley uses on her platforms is fairly minimalistic when it comes to
the colour of the text and the background. Mostly she has used a grey or black font
throughout the site and this against the white background sets the pages off well, the
colours are simple yet consistent and make it easy for the viewer to see what’s there with
ease, nothing is too distracting to the eye.
When it comes to the layout on Kimberley’s site I feel this is very clear, especially when it
comes to displaying her pricing, she has boxed off each package and made it easy for the
viewer to see exactly what is included. At the top of each page is a menu with headers
leading you into each part of her site which I feel is clear and accessible.

The typography on the website is fairly consistent, most of the text matches and works well
together, though on some of the pages I feel this can differ slightly. There are times where
the text is larger and also she may have used black font on headers but then grey elsewhere
so for me I would say this is a downfall and could be altered.

Social Media Strategies

Kimberley uses a range of social media strategies, she has a page for Facebook, Instagram
and also Pinterest. I first headed over to her Facebook page and can initially see she is
promoting bookings for January, I found that Kimberley is currently on maternity leave so
January makes sense. She has a booking system on her page which I think people will find
very useful and quick, especially as nowadays it seems the upcoming idea to use online
booking. Another way Kimberley is promoting her business is by always posting work that
she has done to attract the buyer in.
Kimberley’s Instagram is also used to promote the business, she has links on there directing
you to her website, she states that she is an award winning photographer which gives her a
bigger status and I feel this could attract more custom. Kimberley has used the Instagram as
if it is an online gallery for her work, it has been arranged and displayed professionally with
her images. She also uses the site to update customers on what will be happening in the
near future so they are always kept in the loop and connected to her.
The final platform of Kimberley’s is Pinterest, she doesn’t have as much on here but I know
that this site is used a lot by people. Kimberley has displayed her work her and it only takes
for a people to see her images that they like and then be able to direct themselves to her
business and other pages bringing her in more custom.
Online And Print Media
Kimberley has arranged her work within the website well, she has sectioned off her work
into different galleries being newborn, cake smash, maternity and the studio. I feel it has
been displayed to a professional level, the images aren’t too close together meaning they
are sectioned off slightly from each other creating a needed distance and also they are sized
differently which is quite nice because some photographers will keep all their images the
same size but this doesn’t always work when you have stronger images you want to show
off. You first get a preview of three strong images and they have the option to click in
further into the galleries.
With regards to print media, Kimberley shows in her studio gallery section that she displays
her images on the wall in her studio, it also looks as if she has a printed portfolio too so that
customers are able to see her work in person and not just online, I think this is great. In
Kimberley’s pricing packages it also shows that she offers prints of the images and not just
on usb etc.

Audience
Kimberley targets Parents as her audience as her photography is clearly of children, she also
does maternity sessions so in this case will target Mother’s too. Kimberley has a calming and
friendly approach in her writing on her social media platforms which I feel is needed when
working with children, this will attract the parents as they will feel that this kind of person
will be this way towards their child and this is important. I have found some reviews on
Kimberley and her photography from her customers which I feel will also sell to her
audience with some key points in there. It ha been said that Kimberley is kind, patient,
friendly, calm, generous with time, and not rushed, these are all qualities that will help
Kimberley to attract her audience. If parents feel Kimberley will be patient and calm etc
then they will feel more at ease especially if they are worried about their child going in
unsettled.

Overall I feel that Kimberley has a successful brand identity.
