MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR” THE BIG ONE”

I. OBJECTIVE OF THE PLAN

 To reduce earthquake risks
 To protect and minimize the loss of lives and property from earthquakes.
 To minimize the suffering of people due to earthquakes
 To develop efficient earthquake response mechanism of the possible
affected areas.
 Earthquake awareness and preparedness among members of the
community.

II. RISK ANALYSIS

 Earthquake
An earthquake is a series of vibrations on the earth’s surface caused by the
generation of elastic (seismic) waves due to sudden rupture within the earth during
release of accumulated strain energy.
 Predictions
The Big One Could Kill 34,000 in the Philippines, It might be impossible to predict
when the next earthquake may occur but scientists can pin down what is called a
recurrence interval.
 The Big One Measurement
The magnitude of this earthquake is (estimated at) 7.2 based on the length of the
West Valley Fault, which is around 100 kilometers long,” Philippine Institute of
Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) supervising science research specialist and
geologist Jeffrey S. Perez tells ANCX. “The whole of Metro Manila, parts of Bulacan,
Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna will experience an Intensity-Eight earthquake that is
categorized as “Very Destructive.”
 Impacts
Earthquake impacts routine services due to the damage caused to lifeline
buildings, roads, railway tracks, bridges, highways, disruption of traffic, large amount of
debris, disruption of w

III. PREPAREDNESS & AWARENESS

 Preparing Your Family and Home

o fill vehicle and generator fuel tanks;
o secure loose outdoor items around your home;
o check and charge all mobile phones and emergency radios;
o check and assemble flashlights, first aid kids, and tools;
 Build a Kit

 Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

 Look for temporary shelter

 Government should Provide Essential services to the affected people i.e.
food, water, clothing, sanitation and medical assistance
 Distribution of gratuitous relief and cash doles.
 Provided manpower and transport facilities
 Emphasis on hygiene and sanitation aspects should be given in relief camp
 Relief Kits
V. RECOVERY
 Activities relating to rehabilitation and reconstruction are primarily carried out
by the local Government.
 The reconstruction and rehabilitation plan is designed specifically for worst
case scenario.
o Detailed Damage
o Reconstruction
o Repair and Restoration
o Relocation
o Rehabilitation
 Physical Rehabilitation of Infrastructure
 Socio-economic Rehabilitation
 Psychological Rehabilitation
