Purpose
Use this procedure to create and edit cost centers and cost center groups.
Prerequisites

Procedure
1. Start the transaction using the menu path or transaction code.
SAP Easy Access
2. As required, complete/review the following fields:
Field R/O/C Description

Command Field R An input field located on the right of the Enter key in the
standard toolbar. The command field enables you to enter
a transaction code or access characters and call a
transaction without having to choose menu options.
Example:

3. Click Enter.

Cost Center R An organizational unit within a controlling area that
represents a defined location of cost incurrence.
The definition can be based on:
* Functional requirements

* Allocation criteria
* Physical location
* Responsibility for costs

Valid From R The start of the validity or effectivity period of an object

Example:

5. Click Enter.

Create Cost Center: Basic Screen

Name R Name of statistical base
Example:
PROSERVICES G&A
Description R Enter a name for the object in this field.

Example:
PROSERVICES G&A


Person Responsible R An element that defines a feature. You must enter the
person or persons responsible when you create a feature.
Example:
Clay Swarts
Department R In this field, you can enter the name of the department to
which the cost center belongs. It then can be used for
evaluations.
Example:

Cost Center Category R The master data of an activity type includes one or more
cost center categories. The activity type may be used only
by cost centers of the appropriate categories.
Example:

Hierarchy area R To create cost centers, you require a structure in master

data maintenance to which you can assign cost centers.
You create this CO structure, the standard hierarchy, when
you create a controlling area. If this hierarchy is not present
during controlling area maintenance, the system
automatically creates the highest node there.

Company Code R The smallest organizational unit of Financial Accounting for

which a complete self-contained set of accounts can be
drawn up for purposes of external reporting. This includes
recording of all relevant transactions and generating all
supporting documents required for financial statements.

Profit Center R An organizational unit in Accounting that reflects a
management-oriented structure of the organization for the
purpose of internal control. Operating results for a profit
center can be analyzed using either the cost of sales
approach or the period accounting approach.
By analyzing the fixed capital as well, you can expand your
profit center for use as an investment center.

Name 1 R Name of statistical base

Street R Street and house number as part of the address.

Location R Name of the city as a part of the address.
Example:

District R Supplement to city name or district. The entry is appended

to the city name with a hyphen by the automatic address
formatting function. (Exceptions: Germany, United
Kingdom/Ireland and Japan.)
Example:
SANTA CLARA
Postal Code R This field contains the postal (zip) code for the house
address (street and city).
Example:
95050
Region R In some countries, the region forms part of the address.

The meaning depends on the country.
The automatic address formatting function prints the region

in addresses in the USA, Canada, Italy, Brazil or Australia,
and the county in Great Britain.
Example:
CA
Country R The country key contains information which the system

uses to check entries such as the length of the postal code
or bank account number.
The two-character ISO code in accordance with ISO 3166,

which is delivered by SAP as a default, is usually used.

11. Click Enter.

is the highest organizational unit in Controlling.

Cost Center Group R Summarizes objects created with master data maintenance.
This term is also the name of a node in hierarchically

structured groups.
The group name must be unique in a class and contains a
specified Maximum_length.

Create Cost Center Group: Structure

Short Description of a R The set text describes the contents and meaning of the set
Set and helps in set selection at several points in the SAP
System. You can enter it or change it in the set header
screen.

55. Click Cost Center to add field entries for cost centers.


From Value R This field contains the lower limit of the interval in the set
line. If the set line only consists of one single value, the
value appears in this column.
The input length of the field depends on the database field

assigned to the set.
