Task instructions

This is one of 5 assessment tasks for this unit. You must be deemed satisfactory in all tasks in order
to meet Competency for this unit.

You will be assessed against the criteria listed in the marking guide in Section B of this task. Your
assessor will provide individual feedback after the meetings.

This assessment task will be conducted during class time or by alternative arrangement. Your
assessor will advise of the dates and times for each assessment part.

You will be required to participate in 4 meetings as a WHS committee.

Part A: Meeting – Identify and implement WHS procedures

Discuss and document in minutes the following points:

1. Identify three WHS procedures to be implemented and monitored from the below list.

Conditions for assessment

Skills must be demonstrated in tourism, travel, hospitality or events business operation where WHS
management practices are implemented and monitored. This can be:
 An industry workplace
 A simulated industry environment.

Assessment must ensure access to:


 Computers, software programs, printers and communication technology used to administer the
implementation and monitoring of a WHS system
 Relevant state or territory WHS legislation
 Current plain English regulatory documents distributed by the local WHS government regulator
 Codes of practice and standards issued by government regulators or industry groups
 WHS information and business management manuals issued by industry associations or
commercial publishers
 Current commercial WHS policies and procedures
 Operational team for which the individual coordinates WHS management practices; this can be:

 Teams in an industry workplace who are assisted by the individual during the assessment
process; or
 Individuals, who participate in role-plays or simulated activities, set up for the purpose of
assessment, in a simulated industry environment operated within a training organisation.

 For this task you are required to consult with industry and your peers to understand realistic
and expected standards for work health and safety.
 Your assessor will provide assessment procedures and templates for assessment tasks.
However, you can use your own assessment procedures and templates on approval by the
assessor to ensure they cover the required information.
 Please decide with your assessor within one week of commencing this assessment, if you feel
you require special allowance or adjustment to this task.
 You must submit all documents listed in the instructions and marking criteria. Your assessor
will assess the documentation you provide. They will contact you if any information is missing
and you will have 24 hours to provide the missing documentation for assessment.
 All documents must meet the criteria to the standard described in the marking guide in Section
B to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment
 It is expected all documents will be completed electronically but if this is not possible, make
alternative arrangements for submitting the documents with your assessor.
 You will have the opportunity to resubmit any tools that are deemed unsatisfactory (one
resubmit allowed per unit).
 A qualified assessor or assessors MUST observe students undertaking this task.
 Students MUST complete the allocated tasks within the maximum permissible time frame.
 For group tasks, students will be assessed on their individual contribution to the meetings and
their ability to answer questions.
 Please make arrangements with your assessor at least one week prior to the assessment due
date if you feel you require special allowance or allowable adjustment to this task.
 Students MUST complete all the actions as listed in the observation checklist to the standard
described in Section B to be deemed satisfactory in this assessment.
 Please ensure your full and correct name is written on the student version of this assessment
task (do not use nicknames or abbreviations)
 Students will be assessed as satisfactory (S) or not satisfactory (NS).
 Students can appeal the assessment decision according to the LCBA assessment policy and
procedure.

Discussion:
 Switched on electricity machine
 Kitchen towel on the stove
 Tangled cable on the floor
 Baking tray on the floor
 No cover on the ventilation

 Always turn off the electricity machine
 Store kitchen towel far away from the stove
 Store the cable untangled and away from pathway
 Store the baking tray in the designated place

Discussion:
 We think that the WHS procedures are already clear but the student or staff did not really read or follow the
procedures so there are a few hazard found in the kitchen. The issues example are like fire because it will burn
people and tangled cable because it will trip people

Actions/Conclusions:
 Conduct a proper training
 Fix the ventilation by putting a cover
 Give training to always tidy up the cable after using
 Give training to put the baking tray back to its place after using
 Remind them not to put kitchen towel on the stove

 Staff concern about the cable laying around on the ground, can cause people to trip over it

 Training can be done once a month we need to inform the staff about SDS, We can know which hazard are likely to
happen after revaluating the report. Conduct a training for a new equipment
