Identify the functions of each computer component. 3 pts. each.

1. CPU 2. Motherboard (Mobo)

- is the main printed circuit board (PCB) in general-purpose computers and other
expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial
electronic components of a system, such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory,
and provides connectors for other peripherals. Motherboard means specifically a PCB with
expansion capabilities.

3. Hard disk

- A hard disk, also referred to as a disk drive or hard drive, is a magnetic disk for storing
computer data. It uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital data using one or more rigid,
rapidly rotating platters coated with magnetic material.

4. Memory / RAM

- RAM is short for “random access memory” and while it might sound mysterious, RAM is one
of the most fundamental elements of computing. RAM is the super-fast and temporary data
storage space that a computer needs to access right now or in the next few moments.

5. Power supply

- is an electrical device that supplies electric power to an electrical load. ... All power
supplies have a power input connection, which receives energy in the form of electric current
from a source, and one or more power output connections that deliver current to the load.

1. Spell out WiFi. (1 pt)


- defined as an abbreviation for wireless fidelity, meaning you can access or connect to a
network using radio waves, without needing to use wires. An example of Wi-Fi is when you
go to Starbucks and can join on their network to get on the Internet without having to
connect your computer to any wires.
2. Spell out DVD. (1 pt)

-Stands for "Digital Versatile Disc." A DVD is a type of optical media used for storing digital
data. It is the same size as a CD, but has a larger storage capacity. .

- HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the set of markup symbols or codes inserted
into a file intended for display on the Internet. The markup tells web browsers how to
display a web page's words and images.

4. Are all softwares open source? Expound your answer. (5 pts)

- Open-source software (OSS) is any computer software that's distributed with


its source code available for modification. That means it usually includes a license for
programmers to change the software in any way they choose: They can fix bugs, improve
functions, or adapt the software to suit their own needs.

5. Do all software require product keys? Cite an instance where it does or does not require a
product key. (5 pts)

- Not all software has a product key, as some publishers may choose to use a different method
to protect their copyright, or in some cases, such as open source software, copyright
protection is not used. Computer games use product keys to verify that the game has not been
illegally copied.

6. What is the difference of a CD and a DVD? (3 pts)

- CD stands for Compact Disk. DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disk. CD size is 700
MB. DVD size ranges from 4.7 GB to 17 GB.

7. What is a search engine? (3 pts)

- is a website through which users can search internet content. To do this, users enter the
desired search term into the search field. The search engine then looks through its index for
relevant websites and displays them in the form of a list.

8. What is a web browser is an application used to access and view websites. Common web
browsers include Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and
Apple Safari.? (3 pts)
