1. Name the Parts of Computer base on the number label and explain its function.
Answer:
1. MONITOR- is an electronic visual computer display that includes a screen,
circuitry and the case in which that circuitry is enclosed.
2. MODEM- a combined device for modulation and demodulation, for example,
between the digital data of a computer and the analog signal of a telephone
line.
3. SYSTEM-UNIT- also known as a "tower" or "chassis," is the main part of a
desktop computer. It includes the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and other
components.
4. MOUSE- A computer mouse is an input device that is used with a computer.
Moving a mouse along a flat surface can move the cursor to different items on
the screen. Items can be moved or selected by pressing the mouse buttons
called clicking.
5. SPEAKER- are transducers that convert electromagnetic waves into sound
waves. The speakers receive audio input from a device such as a computer
or an audio receiver.
6. PRINTER- A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a
computer and transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size
sheets of paper.
7. KEYBOARD- A computer keyboard is an input device used to enter
characters and functions into the computer system by pressing buttons, or
keys.
2. Motherboards and their Components, answer on the label and explain its function.
Answer:
1. CPU SOCKET- In computer hardware, a CPU socket or CPU slot contains
one or more mechanical components providing mechanical and electrical
connections between a microprocessor and a printed circuit board.
2. DUAL-CHANNEL DDR2 MEMORY SLOT- Most motherboards have two to
four memory slots, which determine the type of RAM used with the computer.
The most common RAM types are SDRAM and DDR for desktop computers
and SODIMM for laptop computers, each having various types and speeds.
3. NORTH BRIDGE- A northbridge or host bridge is one of the two chips in the
core logic chipset architecture on a PC motherboard, the other being the
southbridge. Unlike the southbridge, the northbridge is connected directly to
the CPU via the front-side bus and is thus responsible for tasks that require
the highest performance.
4. 24-PIN ATX POWER CONNECTOR- It is one of the largest connectors inside
a computer. It connects a power supply to an ATX style motherboard.
5. SOUTH BRIDGE- The southbridge is one of the two chips in the core logic
chipset on a personal computer motherboard, the other being the northbridge.
The southbridge typically implements the slower capabilities of the
motherboard in a northbridge/southbridge chipset computer architecture.
6. PCI SLOT (2)- Peripheral Component Interconnect, or PCI, is the most
common way to attach add-on controller cards and other devices to a
computer motherboard.
7. PCI EXPRESS X16 SLOTS (2)- PCIe (peripheral component interconnect
express) is an interface standard for connecting high-speed components. You
can insert a PCIe x1 card into a PCIe x16 slot, but that card will receive less
bandwidth.
8. PCI EXPRESS X1 SLOT- PCIe (peripheral component interconnect express)
is an interface standard for connecting high-speed components.
9. CMOS BATTERY- CMOS battery provides power for Real Time Clock
whether the device is turned on or off. Additionally, if this is removed and
re-inserted into the device , then the device BIOS password and all its other
settings will get removed.
10. BACK PANEL CONNECTORS- The back panel is the portion of the
motherboard that allows you to connect external devices, such as your
monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse.
11. 4 SATA CONNECTOR- SATA specifies a different power connector than the
four-pin Molex connector used on Parallel ATA or PATA devices and earlier
small storage devices, going back to ST-506 hard disk drives and even to
floppy disk drives that predated the IBM PC.
12. FLOPPY DISK CONTROLLER- is a special-purpose chip and associated disk
controller circuitry that directs and controls reading from and writing to a
computer's floppy disk drive. The concepts may or may not be applicable to,
or illustrative of, other controllers or architectures
13. PATA HOST ADAPTER (2)- Pin 39. Activity. Pin 40. Ground. Parallel ATA
(PATA), originally AT Attachment, is an interface standard for the connection
of storage devices such as hard disk drives, floppy disk drives, and optical
disc drives in computers.
14. 4-PIX ATX 12v POWER CONNECTOR- As the motherboard specification
says, it's a 4-pin ATX 12V power connection. Pretty much every modern
motherboard has a separate 12V power connector that's either a 4-pin or an
8-pin. The primary purpose of this power connector is to power the VRM that
supplies power to the CPU.
15. MOUNTING HOLES- are the one of the most popular ways to attach PCBs
inside enclosures and on other flat surfaces. Most of the time mounting holes
are never given a second thought beyond making sure they are in the corners
of the PCB.
