Wrought Aluminium Alloys JED
019M
Previous Edition Abbreviated Title
2011-07 Wrought aluminium alloys 852 000 190 4

1 Scope
This specification deals with aluminium wrought alloys in the following types:

JED-019M0 for sheets, strips and plates, drawn and extruded profiles and rods as well as forgings;

JED-019M1 not for new designs!

Due to the high lead content not allowed for vehicles below 3,5 t already now and for
heavier vehicles in the future. Alternatives: JED-019M2, to JED-019M5 with lower lead
content or JED-803 without lead.
For profiles and bars obtained by drawing or extrusion, providing good machinability.

JED-019M2 for drawn and extruded profiles and rods with good machinability, low lead content;

JED-019M3 for drawn and extruded profiles and rods with good machinability, low lead content,
higher strength;

JED-019M4 for drawn and extruded profiles and rods with good machinability, low lead content;
high strength;

JED-019M5 for drawn and extruded profiles and rods with good machinability, low lead content;
high strength.

If JED-019M is given in the drawing, JED-019M0 has to be applied.

2 General requirements
The finished parts shall be homogeneous and free from pores, blisters and other defects, the
surfaces must be free from masked cracks and scales. There must be no rough areas, grooves or
mechanical damages. The parts must not show any defects such as cracks, voids etc. within their
structure.
The requirements for finished parts can be taken from the drawing and the special part specification.

All materials, even ingredients in small quantities (e. g. cadmium) which are detrimental to health or
to the environment are banned from being used unless contained as an alloying element.

A corrosion protection suited for the special application may be necessary for the aluminium parts
for example an anodic oxidation coating (JED-007) for resistance against corrosion and wear.
This specification lists minimal properties resulting as a summary from different supplier specific
data sheets standards. For the supply of a particular product only one of those materials may be
chosen which is released in the document „Release of Material“ belonging to this specification. If
narrower limits for the material properties than defined in this specification or additional
requirements are defined in the material data sheets of the materials referenced there, these
narrower limits are binding for deliveries and the additional requirements are valid as well.

3 Thermal range of application

Continuous operational temperature range: -60 °C to +200 °C

For the thermal range of application of the finished parts the range of application of a possibly
applied surface coating has to be taken into consideration.

4.3 Further properties

The alloys according to JED-019M1 and JED-019M2 are suited for free cutting and all are suited for
anodic oxidation.

5 Conditions of delivery
The material and the finished parts must correspond to the technical conditions of delivery defined in
JED-622.
