Assignment 2

1. Test of Authenticity and Credibility

• Typical practice for the majority of people in obtaining information is to accept any
source that comes from their subject matter. However, it is critical to subject sources to
criticisms to think deeply about the nature of the sources obtained (Historical Criticism,
1917). This is called Source Criticism on which sources should undergo examination
and be dealt with high regard to obtain originality, competence, and accuracy of the
information. As such, Source Criticism can be divided into two tests, the External and
Internal Criticisms. Furthermore, External Criticism relates to the authenticity of the
source, where it involves instituting whether a source can be traced back to its claimed
originator and if the source is consistent with known facts (Toland & Yoong, 2013).
Internal Criticism, on the other hand, relates to the credibility of the source, where it
consists of establishing meaning from the author and providing judgment from the
intentions and prejudices of the writer (Toland & Yoong, 2013).

2. The Tejeros Convention of 1897

• According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the Tejeros
convention occurred on March 22, 1987, held in Tejeros to solve the dispute between
rival councils and to establish a new revolutionary government to replace the
Katipunan. During the convention, there is a presence of an unruly crowd from each
side that causes recess and resumed after Bonifacio was assigned to preside the
convention and additionally laid down a rule that the assembly should respect the
outcome than continued the election of the officials of the new government that has to
be set up. Furthermore, It was noted that the result of the election follows: Emilio
Aguinaldo as President, Mariano Trias as Vice President, Artemio Recarte as Captain-
General, Emiliano de Dios as Director of War, and Andres Bonifacio as Director of
Interior where Bonifacio was contested by Daniel Tirona due to his credentials. As a
result, Bonifacio felt insulted and later declared that all matters concerned about the
Tejeros Convention were all invalid and void.
