Breathalyzer Tests On Prom

Students are in uproar in light of a recent announcement made by Principal Jimenez of

Leaguetown High School after he has decided to employ Breathalyzer tests to help sort out the
students from sober, to drunk on Prom night.

Prom night is a big event for all high-school juniors and seniors. This year, the school has
decided to take a more cautious route with attendance. Last year, four students rode from the
Prom, blackout drunk. Two of these students got in a car wreck, and the other two were arrested
for public intoxication. This news caused some juniors and seniors to rethink their tickets, who
believe this is a violation of rights.

“We tried talking to Mr. Jimenez, but he wouldn’t listen to us. Giving us Breathalyzer tests is
treating us like criminals. I don’t care if the cops arrest someone because they are visibly drunk
and making a scene, but arresting someone because they had one beer or one sip on prom night is
pretty stupid.” senior Sonny Tarwater said.

This new prom will be at the Second Street inn from 8 p.m to midnight. This happens to be right
across the street from the school’s prom, being held at the nearby Hilton.

“The junior class is putting on a great prom. The theme is ‘Happily Ever After.’ We are going to
decorate the ball room like it’s a fairy tale. Everything is going to look great. We also hired the
same deejay from last year. I know some seniors are putting on an alternative prom at the Second
Street Inn, but I promise it won’t be as good as ours,” junior class president Heidi Swift says.

Many seniors are buying tickets to this alternative prom. However, some students aren’t on
board, even if their evening dates are.

“My boyfriend wants to go to Sonny’s prom, but I don’t. I want the real thing,” Senior Eve
Tooley said. Eve showed full support for this new tactic.“This is my Senior year. I want the
dress, the photos, the limo, the whole thing. So we have to blow into a little tube. What’s the big
deal? No one parties much before prom anyway. I think Sonny and friends are just blowing it
way out of proportions.”

While the school is split on the situation, law enforcement is very keen on employing this new
strategy.
“I’ve heard a few grumbles that we are violating student’s rights, but what underage student has
the right to drink alcohol? We’re just trying to protect them. Honestly, I don’t think many
students will test positive . I don’t think we have a huge drug and alcohol problem here. It’s just
another step we’re taking to keep kids safe.” School Police Chief Eric Mclennan said.

Principal Jimenez remains unflinching about the decision to employ the Breathalyzers, saying
that it’s only for the best.

“We do not want a repeat of last year’s prom. It is my job to keep the students safe as possible,
and this breath test will do that. Students don’t understand the dangers of drinking. When the
school police chief suggested the test to me, I knew we had a solution. The test only takes
seconds. Most of our students are good kids who make good decisions. I am sorry they have to
be subjected to this, but it’s in everyone’s best interest.” Principal Jimenez said.

As far as information, I think you did a really good job with quotes and things like that. The
only real downside to your writing is that it is kinda lengthy. There is information that your
writing could do without and there were times you started to stray away from your lede but
besides that it was pretty much perfect.
