It consists of the systematic collection of data on the forest resources of a given area. It
allows the evaluation of the current state and lays the foundations for analysis and planning,
which constitute the starting point of sustainable forest management. Its importance lies in
the fact that it is only possible to make decisions that are based on reliable and solid
information, which is why a cyclical process of data collection, decision-making and
evaluation of the results obtained is necessary.
Due to cost and time constraints, inventories are often carried out using sampling
techniques. The general principle of sampling is to select a subset from a population and
draw conclusions from the sample for the entire population. The selection of the most
appropriate sampling design is made based on several considerations (more information on
this can be found in the Tools section of this module). The two basic considerations are to
define whether the objective is to establish a monitoring system (repeated measurements
over time) and whether or not auxiliary information is available (that is, aerial photographs
or satellite images).
FOREST SAMPLING
The environmental management systems technologist of the Guaviare regional Seine went
to the biodiverse farm on March 4, 2020, the farm is located at kilometer 11 via
Villavicencio in order to prepare a forest inventory of the farm.
To carry out the inventory, the following implements were used: decameter, GPS
Essentials, tape measure and spreadsheets to store the collected data.
To begin with the collection of data for the forest inventory, the group divided the different
activities to speed up the work. The first thing we verified was that the shaft was greater
than 10 cm wide, this measurement is taken at the height of 1.30 cm CAP (cm) after this the
commercial height was calculated, which is the usable part of the tree and the total height is
the tree completely.
The coordinates of each of the trees were also collected to have the precision of where the
species that were included in the inventory are found, then the species of each tree was
identified.
With this we finalize the data collection in the field.
Then with the data already collected in the field, we identified the diameter at breast height
in meters DAP (m) and the CAP (m), basal area, volume and FFB, this was identified by
formulas in an Excel format with the data that had already been collected.
CAP (m): CAP (cm) divided into 100
DAP (m): CAP (m) divided into 3.1416
Basal area: 0.79 * DAP (m) 2
FFB: = 0.97983-0.08471 * DAP (m) -0.01327 * commercial height
Volume: 0.785 * DAP (m) 2 * commercial height * FFB

CONCLUCION
Determine the number of trees in the biodiverse farm km 11 and calculate the volume of
wood in plantations and native forest, the height and diameter of the trees should be
measured
