SUBJECT:-MATHEMATICS ( 041 )

Time Allowed: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 80

General Instructions:

1. This question paper contains two parts A and B. Each part is compulsory. Part A
carries 24 marks and Part B carries 56 marks
2. Part-A has Objective Type Questions and Part -B has Descriptive Type Questions
3. Both Part A and Part B have choices.

Part – A:

1. It consists of two sections- I and II.


2. Section I comprises of 16 very short answer type questions.
3. Section II contains 2 case studies. Each case study comprises of 5 case-based MCQs.
An examinee is to attempt any 4 out of 5 MCQs.

Part – B:

1. It consists of three sections- III, IV and V.


2. Section III comprises of 10 questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section IV comprises of 7 questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section V comprises of 3 questions of 5 marks each.
5. Internal choice is provided in 3 questions of Section –III, 2 questions of Section IV and
3 questions of Section-V. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such
questions.

Section I
All questions are compulsory. In case of internal choices attempt any one.

10. A person has 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents, and so on. Find the number
of his ancestors during the eight generations preceding his own.

Both the Case study based questions are compulsory. Attempt any 4 sub parts from
each question 17 and 18 . Each sub part carries 1 mark.

17. In a library 44 students are reading books of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It was
found that 21 students were reading Mathematics, 26 reading Physics and 29 reading
chemistry, 12 students reading both Mathematics and Chemistry, 14 students reading
Physics and Mathematics. 14 students reading Physics and Chemistry and 8 students
reading all three subjects.

Based on the above information answer the following:

24. How many 3-digit numbers can be formed from the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 assuming that
repetition of the digits is not allowed?

25. If A.M. and G.M. of two positive numbers a and b are 15 and 9, respectively, find the
numbers.
26. Find the equation of the circle passing through ( 0 , 0) and making intercepts 2 and 3 on the
x and y axes respectively.

28. A committee of two persons is selected from two men and two women. What is the
probability that the committee will have one man and one woman ?

A fair coin is tossed three times, and a person win Re 1 for each head and lose Rs 1.50 for
each tail that turns up. From the sample space calculate how many different amounts of
money you can have after three tosses and the probability of having each of these amounts.

29. Let A, B and C be the sets such that A∪ 𝐵 = 𝐴 ∪ 𝐶 and A ∩ 𝐵 = A ∩ C. Show that B=C

(i) Write the set {x : x is a prime number which is divisor of 30} in roster form.
(ii) Write the set {1, 5, 25, 125, 625} in the set-builder form .
(iii) Write the power set of set { 1 , 2 }

30. Find the domain and the range of the real function f defined by f (x) = √25 − 𝑥 2 .

Define a relation R on the set N of natural numbers by

+ 6 = 0.
38. Calculate mean, variance and standard deviation for the following distribution.
