“Hey Jack,” Tom shouted into Jack’s ear from the back seat, “Where did you say

this cabin was

again?” Jack played around with his ear, trying to regain some of the hearing lost from the sudden
blast of sound emanating from his friends mouth. “Firstly, ouch! Secondly I never said where the
cabin was and I don’t intend to, it’s a surprise.”

Jack and three of his friends where driving down a dirt path just around sunset. It had taken Jack
longer than anticipated to arrive at his destination, mostly due to the vaguely cryptic directions given
to him by his father in his will not 3 days prior. “So where’d you get this cabin from Jack” Terry
asked. “The cabin was given to me by my dad along with a letter after his death. The letter stated
that not only had I inherited my dad’s never before seen cabin but that I had also inherited the
family business.” Jack replied going through the details of his dad’s letter in his head

“Bloody hell, that’s huge,” Brian just audibly muttered. “Hey jack, you didn’t tell us your dad was
rich” Terry chimed in from the back, making Tom jump. Tom had been absentmindedly staring out
the window at a movement following them in the trees just by the path.

Stopping the car, the four friends stepped out of the car and stared at Jacks inheritance. It looked
more like a four bedroom house than a cabin. “Ok then guys, let’s get everything inside,” Jack said to
his friends, “it’s gonna be dark soon.”

Half an hour later and everything for the weekend was tidily packed around the unusually clean
‘cabin’. “You guys start fixing up something to eat, I need to go to the basement, my dad said he left
something for me down there.” Jack called to his friends before opening the triple bolted door into
the basement.

“Hey dudes, did you hear about the monster that’s supposed to live around here” Brian asked the
guys composing the imperial march with pots and pans. “How do you know where we are then,”
replied Tom before getting smacked in the side of the head with a wooden spoon, “OW”. “Google
maps, duh” Brian retorted. “There’s supposed to be a creature that roams these woods” Brian
continued “it’s said that it looks like a large furless bear with elongated limbs and a snout that looks
like it’s been cut cleanly down the middle”. The three men turned their heads towards a sound
outside. Brian then continued “It has human hands and loves to skin its victims alive and hang their
mangled flesh on branches around the forest”. “Yeah right” Tom called. “No I think I’ve heard of this
story” Terry replied “but it’s not a creepy bear thing that skins people, it’s a huge humanoid creature
with thin, lanky arms and a permanent smile on its chalk white face” the men laughed at the terror
on Toms face. “Not funny guys”

Jack could hear his friends upstairs. The letter said to bring them and what to do. Jack was excited
and the basement was prepared. Walking up the stairs Jack exclaimed “Well you guys got one bit
right”. His friends turned to face him as he entered the light of the kitchen. “The monster is
humanoid in shape but there isn’t just one, its passed down from generation to generation, normally
after the death of the father” Jack smiled at the men in front of him, once they were friends, now
they are prey.
