Title: Nutrition and disease

Problem: It is believed that a lack of some mineral elements can result in a

deficiency in plants. Plan and design an experiment to prove this.
Hypothesis: lack of mineral elements will result in yellowing of leaves.
Aim: To investigate if the lack of nitrogen, potassium elements in soil can result in
deficiency disease in plants.
Apparatus/materials: plastic container. (Flowers pot) plant specimen, soil medium
(pure soil) sandy soil, different fertilizers with different mineral elements

Method:
1. Collect all material needed for the experiment
2. Label four (4) containers; container one A, container two B, container three
C, container four D.
3. Measure equal amount of soil medium and organic matter and place it in
each of the pots.
4. Moisten the soil in each pot with equal amount of water
5. Plant 4 different specimen in the four different pots
6. Check your plant specimen regularly and water when needed
7. Record your observations of the plants.

Observation/Results:

Variables:
Control- The amount of soil placed in each (pot) container.
Manipulating- The type of plant specimen used in the experiment
Responding- How much volume of water was added to the soil
medium and the organic matter/loam

Expected Results: To observe if the organic matter contains more

mineral element than soil medium

Treatment of Results: If the organic matter contains more mineral

element than soil medium then the hypothesis is true. If not then
then the hypothesis is false.

Precaution:
1. Ensure all the plant specimen are the same
2. Ensure the correct amount of water is given to the plant
specimen.

Source of error:
1. the plant specimen may be different
2. The plant specimen may have been non-fertal

Assumptions: It was assumed that the organic matter contains more

mineral elements than soil medium and these claim was found.
