Problem Statement
Battery - Source of Failures
1. Loose battery Holding rods & mounts
2. Defective cables
3. Damaged Terminal Post
4. Loose Connections
5. Blocked Vent holes
6. Sulfation
7. Dirt or moisture
8. Cracked Case

Root Cause
1, Loose battery Holding rods & mounts

• Excess Vibration.
• Loosening of terminal connections.
• Damages etc.
• Reduce the service life of the battery.

Root Cause
2, Defective Cables

• Damaged cables
need to be Replaced.
• Will effect the
battery charging and
discharge functions.
• Loose connections
etc.

Root Cause
3, Damaged Terminal Post
• The number one cause is due to
loose or corroded connections.
• This looseness or corrosion
causes resistance and a byproduct
of electrical resistance is heat,
which leads to melting. + _

Negative
terminal melts.

Root Cause
5, Blocked Vent holes

• Dust & other particle accumulation blocking the vent.

• Need to be cleaned.

explosive gasses must be allowed

to vent to the atmosphere and must
never be trapped in a
sealed battery box! 6

Root Cause
6, Sulfation

• Sulfation occurs when a lead

acid battery is deprived of a full charge.
• Will create overheating & bulging of
batteries.

Root Cause
7, Dirt or Moisture

• Clean the battery

during washing &
maintenance.
• Dirt and moisture
accumulation need
to be removed.

Preventive Action

1.During inspections make sure battery Holding rods & mounts

are intact.
2.Replace the Defective cables with OEM recommended cables,
do not compromise on alternatives.
3.Check and tighten the Terminal Post connections.
4.Make sure the Cable Connections are intact and properly
secured.
5.Clean the Vent holes for any dust accumulation.
6.Clean the Dirt or moisture accumulation
7.Cracked Case – replace it immediately and handle with care.
