Problem Statement
RING GEAR
During Inspection, The following problems were found

• Abnormal Sound.
• Gear teeth damage.
• Excess Wear.
• Metal Particles in oil.
• Pitting marks.
• Spalling marks.
• Beach marks.

Root Cause
OPERATION PERSPECTIVE
• OVER LOADING THE VEHICLE BEYOND RATED CAPACITY.
• ABUSIVE OPERATION OVER ROUGH TERRAIN.
• CONTINUOUS OVERLOADING.
• SUDDEN BRAKES UNDER LOAD CONDITIONS.

MAINTENANCE PERSPECTIVE

• LACK OF MAINTENANCE OR IMPROPER MAINTENANCE.


• CONTAMINATED LUBRICATION OIL.
• INCORRECT LUBRICATION OIL.
• LOW OR NO LUBRICATION OIL.
• NEGLIGENCE.

Preventive Action
• Operator need to follow proper vehicle load rating and
Speeds as per OEM Specifications.
• Check, monitor and take corrective action towards
operator’s drive practices & operation.
• Maintenance need to be carried out as per the OEM
Standards.
• Sudden breaking need to be avoided.
• Only trained operators need to be engaged in the
operation & Monitored.
• Misuse of the equipment should be eliminated.
OPEN THE COVER HIGHLIGHTED IN THE PHOTO AND CARRY OUT THE FOLLOWING

Preventive Measures:
• To avoid such failure need to do Visual inspection
during periodic maintenance and oil replacement as
per the OEM recommendation at every 2000 hrs.
• It is mandatory to carry out complete differential
assembly & Final drive checking at vehicle which has
crossed 30000 hrs.
• Inspect the Sun and planetary gear for damages and
take corrective action.
