To get the answer to our problem,we worked sort of backwards.

The first thing we did was make prompts for the problem. We knew that Emmets number
was a multiple of three,so we listed all the multiples of 3 that were 20 or below.Next we
thought, well,Rachel’s number is bigger than Emmets number,so we need to list all the numbers
that are bigger than 3 but smaller than 20 so we did that. Then we needed to multiply all of
Rachel's numbers by 2,because Georges number was exactly 2 times Rachel’s number.Lastly we
thought that Lia’s number would be one-third of Georges number,AND it would be a multiple of
3,so we checked all of Georges possible numbers and then found out that 18 was the only one
that could be put into 3rds,and it endedThat’s how we knew that Lia’s number had to be 6.
Now that we found out that Lia’s number was 6,we thought about what we just did to
find that out,and saw that Georges number was clearly 18 because Lia’s number was supposed to
be 1 3rd of Georges number,AND a multiple of 3!
So now that we know George's number we thought, “So,if George's number is 18,it is 2
times Rachel’s number.18 divided by 2 =9,so Rachel’s number was 9!
We knew at the beginning of the problem that Rachels number was bigger than
Emmet’s,so we eliminated all of Emmet’s numbers that were 9 or above, but we still had 2
numbers left,3 and 6!We took some time to think and then I remembered:Lia’s number was
6,and it was not the smallest number! So then we saw that there was only one number left,3.That
was our answer to Emmet’s number,3!
