Birthday Money Written Response
Name: Gabriella Schuster

Monica got $80 as birthday money. I know this

because I made a chart. After reading the prompt I
decided to make the chart into 8ths to make further
math less complicated. First, I took away ¼ (2/8) of the
birthday money because she spent that much. Then
with 6/8 left I split it into half because Monica loses
the remaining half so I got ⅜. The three eighths is
equal to $30 dollars and I knew this because there were
no more operations to be done, so because ⅜ was equal
to $30 dollars I knew that ⅛ is 10 dollars. There were 8
pieces in the whole so I multiplied 8x10 to get eighty
as the amount of money she got in total.
To reduce the fraction ⅜ you get 1.5/4 and because
it was difficult to do math with decibels I just used
eighths instead of quarters.
