Third Meeting Assignment

1. The Present Continuous Tense

A form of tense used to express an action that is taking place in a certain time at the
present time. This tense tells us that the action occurred before, and continues during the
present, and continues afterwards. The Present Continuous Tense formula is Subject + to be (am
/ is / are) + verb (-ing) + ... (complement).
Example:
a. I am reading it right now.
b. We are trying to bake the cake.

2. The Past Continuous Tense

The past continuous is a tense form used to express that an action is taking place for a
certain time in the past (past). This form indicates that the action occurred before (started
before), during (ongoing during), and may continue after (continued after) time or other actions
that occurred in the past. The past continuous of any verb is composed of two parts : the past
tense of the verb "to be" (was/were), and the base of the main verb +ing. The Past Continuous
Tense formula is Subjek + to be (was/were) + verb (-ing) + … (compliment).
Example:
a. They were waiting for the bus when the accident happened.
b. Caroline was skiing when she broke her leg.

The formula is: S + to be (is, am, are) + V-
ing + (object) + (adverb)/compliment
Example: They are still watching movie
Verb: verb added -ing (verb-ing) which
was previously contained (is, am, are).
Example: I am having breakfast
Happened in the past
Example: I was reading book
The Formula is: S + to be (was, were) + V-
ing + (object) + (adverb)/compliment
Example: They were watching movie while
I was listening to music
Verb: verb added -ing (verb-ing)
previously contained (was, were).
Example: I was having breakfast

b. Similiarities: The two tenses both state actions that have been done in the past, and now
the work is still valid. then the text can be affixed with a time statement.
