Do you like your current hairstyle?

Well, it’s just so-so. I don’t have a habit of changing my hairstyle frequently;

notwithstanding, I receive constant compliments about my silky hair as people think
that I have had a hair rebonding treatment, which I have never had done in my entire
life

How often do you have your hair cut?

Once in a blue moon, I often do it before Lunar New Year’s Day because I love to look
refreshed and different to start the new year. Last year, I dyed it light brown, which
made me look quite fashionable and trendy. There was a time that I was brave
enough to cut my bangs after watching some video tutorials, but it turned out
pretty hideous, and I was too embarrassed to show it so I wore a hat all day long.

When was the last time you had your hair cut?

The last time I changed my hairstyle was when I quit my previous job; I wanted a
change of image so having a haircut would be the first and foremost thing to do. I
went to a hair salon near my house to have a lob cut and felt much livelier because of
the style as it really complimented the shape of my face

Do you often change your hairstyle?

Like I said before, I don’t often change my hairstyle, perhaps twice or three times a year
I think. This year, I may dye my hair a peculiar colour, such as silver or ombre, to go
with a curtain fringe, which is a good way to conceal my broader forehead.

 How often do you like to wear

jeans?
 I find jeans to be really comfy and stylish, so I tend to wear them
a few times a week, especially in the colder months. However, in
the summer my preference is to put on Khakis since they are
lighter and help to cool me down.
 Did you ever wear jeans at school?
 Fortunately, my school didn’t have a dress code policy so I could
wear denim. They were my go to choice for clothing as I felt that
I looked my best wearing classic faded blue jeans. Everyone I
knew wore them, so to fit in I felt it normal to wear jeans at
school. .
 Why are jeans popular all around
the world?
 Mmm. Why are they? It seems to me that this type of clothing is
universally accepted because they are so versatile and durable.
What I mean is that you can wear them almost every where, and
they can last for years. Plus, they are very easy to match with
almost anything.
 Would you pay a lot to buy jeans?
 Well, I’m not ready to fork out thousands of dollars to buy the
most luxurious brand labels, but I don’t mind paying a little bit
extra for a nice pair.  I like to look for ones that are made of
sturdy cotton, which should get better and softer with age. Also,
they won’t stretch and lose their shape or colour as much.
 When do you need to concentrate the most?
 There are many situations when I need to focus 100% on what I’m doing. For
instance, it is necessary to stay focused all the time when I’m driving on the
road, to avoid accidents or other dangerous situations. Or when I have
to study for exams, do a test like this or work my butt off to meet deadlines,
concentration is a vital key to success.
 Do you ever find it difficult to stay focused?
 I have a relatively weak body so I sometimes suffer from a light
headache easily, especially when the weather changes, which greatly influences
my level of concentration. Also, when I have a debate or argument with
someone, I feel drained and my mind will become too scattered to focus on
anything.
 What may distract you when you are trying to stay focused?
 There are tons of distractions around me; they might come from my mates,
family, neighbours or social networking sites, such as Facebook
notifications. For example, last weekend when I was working on my new
project, I couldn’t really focus on my work because my neighbour had a party and
the music was too loud.
 What do you do to help you concentrate?
 Honestly, I have been practising yoga and meditation in the morning for about
2 months now to help me improve my concentration. I also remove some of the
things that are distracting me, such as turning off most of the notifications on my
phone, and I create a daily to-do list to help me focus on one thing at a time.

 1. Do you like walking?
 I'm not one for going on really long walks in the countryside, but I don't mind
walking when I'm in a town or city, for example when I'm sightseeing in a new
place.
 2. Do you think walking is important?
 Yes, I think it's important to be active, and walking is the most basic physical
activity that we can do.
 3. Do you think walking in the countryside is better than walking in the
city?
 Personally, no. As I said before, I like walking in the city, especially if it's
somewhere with a lot of history like London or Paris.
 4. What could be done to improve the experience of walking in cities?
 I suppose the main issues are space and safety. Pavements need to be wide
enough to accommodate lots of pedestrians, and we need safe places to cross
the street.
 Have you done water sports?

 (Answer 1)
 Yes I have but not a lot, only a couple of, specifically kayaking and
swimming. I love swimming so much that I consider myself as a
professional swimmer. In fact, I’ve joined several swimming
competitions in our city and most of the time I won. Also, I enjoy
kayaking and it’s my favorite recreational sport!
 What water sports are you interested in?

 (Answer 1)
 Well as I’ve just said, I’m more into kayaking and swimming! I do
swimming almost every single day and my summer holiday is not
perfect without doing kayaking. I can’t imagine my life without doing
those two water sports.
 What kind of water sports do people in your (this) country
like?

 (Answer 1)
 Well, this country is tropical and with many islands, so we can
expect  that local people love swimming, surfing, scuba diving, to
name a few. We are fortunate that we have many white-sand
beaches and well-protected coral reefs that people can enjoy. Not
only that, some parts of this country have the best weather
conditions for surfing and that attracts hundreds of thousands of
surfers from different countries every summer.
What other water sports would you like to try?

Well, water polo is only what I have in mind, I find it interesting. It’s like a
combination of two kinds of sports: rugby and swimming as some people
call it ‘water rugby’. That captured my interest just recently after watching
Southeast Asian games on TV. I might try that one this summer with my
friends.

Do you usually use a pen or a pencil?

(Answer 1)
As an artist, I often use pencils than pens because they’re ideal for
sketching. Most of the time I use graphite pencils whenever I sketch or
draw, however, I sometimes use grease pencils for drawing especially
when I need to draw in broad strokes without getting finicky.
Which do you prefer using a pen or a pencil?

Well, I need to sign some pertinent documents at work every now and
again, so I usually use a pen. We aren’t allowed to use a pencil for signing
because it can be altered or changed.

When was the last time you bought a pen or a pencil?

Well, I’ve just bought this morning because I had to take the three sections
of the IELTS exam  and I needed to use a pencil . Seriously, I bought 4
pieces of pencils since I was really anxious that I may break one or two
during the exam. I wanted to feel secure so having extra pencils was the
best assurance I could give for myself, and that helped me stop from
thinking of problems that I might encounter while taking the exam.

What do you think if someone gives you a pen or a pencil as a

gift?
Without a doubt, I’d be astounded most especially if I get a Parker fountain
pen. You know that kind of pen costs an arm and a leg, so I don’t think I
can contain my happiness if I get one. But anyway, I don’t mind if the pen
is not expensive, the fact that the person gives me a present is what I care
the most.

Run

Do you like running?

(Answer 1)
I have to admit I’m not into running, that’s not the kind of exercise that I
do as I find it exhausting. I’m more fascinated in swimming since I love
water activities. Well, I did try running in the past but I ended up having
fatigue.
How often do you go for a run?

(Answer 1)
As I’m usually busy because of work and filial duty, I can only run twice a
month – not much! Yes, I know the amazing benefits of running but I just
don’t have the luxury of time to do that kind of exercise. Although, I don’t
run often, I still keep myself fit through walking. Actually, I walk to work
everyday.

Where do you usually go running?

(Answer 1)
There’s one spectacular National Park near our residence which is my most
favorite place to go for a run. I love that place because it is surrounded
with massive trees that are covered with moss. Running there makes me
feel like I’m in a movie like that of the Lord of the Rings. Actually, the park
is packed with runners every summer.
Is there any beautiful scenery in your hometown?

(Answer 1)
Yes there is but I don’t consider it as jaw-dropping or extra-ordinary
scenery, it’s just a  typical view of the countryside. There are mountains
and forests where hikers usually visit and there’s one big lake where
people can enjoy fishing, especially in summer.
Do you enjoy visiting places with beautiful views?

(Answer 1)
Yes I do! Who doesn’t? I  believe everyone of us loves to go to places that
can take our breath away! Actually, I’ve been to many places and see
countless spectacular views but for me the most memorable one was the
Northern Lights in Norway. It’s just one of a kind! Indescribable!
Do you like taking pictures of beautiful scenery?

(Answer 1)
Without a doubt! I love capturing landscapes, forests, mountains, rivers,
beaches, to name a few. As a matter of fact, I put all of my excellent
photos in a frame and place them on the wall in my house. It’s my perfect
kind of travel souvenir – well good thing I have enough knowledge in
photography that helps me take breathtaking photos.
Do you like staying in hotels with beautiful views?

(Answer 1)
Absolutely,  but I cannot deny the fact that those kinds of hotels usually
cost an arm and a leg. Hotels with wonderful views are a perfect place to
relax however always at a price! Nevertheless, they’re still always at the
top of the list when I choose hotels for my vacation.

appears in so many places, like the seven days of the week, the seven main notes in
music, and the seven ages of man that Shakespeare described.

No, I'm not very good at remembering numbers. I don't think it's necessary to learn them
by heart; I just save them on my phone.
4) What numbers do people often have to memorise?
The most important number to remember on a daily basis is the pin number for your
bank card. Without this you can't pay for anything or get cash out.

you've made them happy. It's great to share a funny moment with someone.

Yes, of course. It's important to see the funny side of things; humour helps us not to
take life too seriously. I think that laughter is good for our health.
4. Is laughing the same as feeling happy?
It's not exactly the same because you can be happy without laughing, and sometimes
we laugh when something bad has happened; a sense of humour can help us to cope
with difficult situations.

Cake

Do you like eating cakes?

(Answer 1)
Yes definitely! I have a sweet tooth and cakes are my favorite kind of
dessert. In fact, I never miss storing some cakes in our refrigerator. Eating
a slice of cake after a meal is heaven on Earth!
Do you know how to bake a cake?

(Answer 1)
Yes I do, and I am a professional pastry chef.  I’m currently working in one
of the best cafes here in this city and baking is part of my daily routine at
work.
When do you usually eat cakes?

(Answer 1)
Well, like most people do – on special occasions such as natal day,
weddings, Christmas, and New Year. These are the times that I indulge
myself eating cakes as they’re always served during those wonderful
occasions.
What is your favorite kind of cake?

(Answer 1)
Nothing in particular – I can eat any kinds of cake – well, as long as there
isn’t any poison in it! I couldn’t understand why there are some people who
are so picky when it comes to cake. For me all cakes are the same –
they’re sweet!
cooking
1. Do you like cooking? Why / why not?
Sometimes. I like preparing a special meal for family or friends who visit, but everyday
cooking is a bit boring; it's something that has to be done, but it's not really fun.
2. Who did the cooking in your family when you were a child?
My mother almost always did the cooking when I was young. I don't think she trusted
my father to make a nice meal.
3. Do you think that it's important to know how to cook well?
I'm not sure whether it's important to cook well, but I do think that everyone should know
the basics. It definitely isn't healthy to rely on pre-prepared meals or fast food.
4. Do you think that children should be taught cookery at school?
Yes, that's probably a good idea. If all children knew how to cook a few basic, healthy
meals, that would surely be a good thing.
Garden
1. What can people do in their garden at home?

SAMPLE – “Gardens are very versatile. By that I mean, you can do many things with
them and in them. Some people want a garden full of brightly-coloured flowers that
they can sit in, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty. On the other hand, many people
start a garden because they want to grow their own vegetables and be more self-
sufficient.”
2. Why do many people not keep a garden?

SAMPLE – “I think many people avoid keeping a garden [different grammatical

structure] because cultivating one can be very time-consuming [How?] Gardeners
have to plant seeds, water the plants regularly, remove weeds, and deal with pests that
might damage or kill the plants. Also, in crowded cities, many people simply do not
have the room for a garden.”
1. Is it beneficial for children to play in a garden?

SAMPLE  – “Definitely! Any opportunity that children have to play outside is a good
thing. Nowadays, children generally live sedentary lives without much time for
exercise. Playing in a garden can help a child be physically healthier through exercise
and also mentally healthier by spending some time in a natural environment rather
than staring at a computer screen.”
4. Is it necessary to have gardens or parks in our cities?

SAMPLE – “Yes, I think open spaces like parks and gardens are absolutely necessary
in urban areas. Without them, cities would just be block after block of buildings
with nowhere for people to enjoy the outdoors. Green areas provide a space for
relaxation and recreation, while of course more trees is always good for cleaner air.”
History

Do you like learning history?

Answer 1
Yes, I am a big fan of history. I love learning about the past, inspirational
figures, and obscure little facts. For some, history may be such a dull topic
to talk about, but for me, it makes me become more knowledgeable and it
helps me understand the society and the world better.
Have you ever been to historical museums?

Answer 1
Sad to say, I have never been to a historical museum ever. For me it is just
very tedious having to stroll around the whole building just to take a
glimpse on some pictures and odd-looking things that I’m restricted to
touch. But I am open to the possibility that someday I can pay a visit to a
museum and who knows, I might be fascinated with it.
When was the last time you read something about history?

Well, that was a few months ago and recently I haven’t had any chance to
read one since I’ve been so hard-pressed with a lot of errands. Anyway, I
read different history books whenever I get a chance and reading
important historic events often fascinates me. I’m very passionate about
learning important historical occurrences and prominent personalities both
in the past and now who changed and have changed the world we see
today.
Did you like history when you were young?

Answer 1
Back in the days, history was the one subject that me and my classmates
got frightened of.  Honestly speaking, I didn’t recognize the value of
History classes before, but fortunately, in this day and age, I’m able to
cherish the significance of this subject. Reading history books helps me
understand the past, which in turn allows me to understand the present.
Desserts
1. Do you like eating cakes?
Well I must say that cakes are the best comfort food in the whole world. Everytime I pass a
bakery, I often stand there for a few good minutes so that the freshly baked chocolate cakes
with sugar dusting would whiff through my senses, and makes me feel so happy.
2. Do you like dessert?
Well I must say that I’m a big fan of dessert because it helps put me in a good mood. You know
the feeling when you’ve turned to a box of chocolate on a bad day just so you could feel that
there’s still hope left in this world.
3. Have you ever made cakes?
Yes, I have. I’ve learned how to make them from scratch. But I think the whole process of baking
is a little bit complicated because it involves a lot of different ingredients and also equipment.
It’s nice to bake once in a while.
Từ vựng hay:
from scratch: từ đầu
comfort food: món ăn khiến tâm trạng tốt hơn
freshly baked: mới nướng, mới ra lò
sugar dusting: đường bột
whiff through: thoảng qua
put sb in a good mood: làm ai cảm thấy tốt hơn
Nothing give me more pleasure than eating my favorite dessert.

Yes, I'm quite happy at my current age, although I wouldn't mind going back to when I
was younger. It would be nice to relive some of my memories from childhood.
2) When you were a child, did you think a lot about your future?
Not really. I remember thinking about the near future - about exams and things in the
year ahead - but I didn't worry too much about adulthood.
3) Do you think you have changed as you have got older?
Yes, in some ways I'm a completely different person now, compared to when I was
younger. I think my personality has changed quite a lot, and I'm more open and relaxed.
4) What will be different about your life in the future?
Who knows? Hopefully, my life won't change much over the next decade or so, but after
that I can't really imagine or predict.
Fish

Do you like fishing?

(Answer 1)

Yes I do and it’s my first love. Fishing became my favorite pastime since I
was little because our house was situated near a lake. I remember every
summertime, my dad and I spent much time fishing on his tiny boat at the
nearest lake and we usually caught plenty of freshwater fish. I have
wonderful memories of fishing with my father – well, these days, in spite of
my hectic schedule, I still find time to go fishing.
Is fishing a good hobby?

(Answer 1)

Indeed, like I said, it’s my first love. I think it’s one of the best hobbies a
person can have. I find fishing helpful to relieve my work-related stress
and it helps me feel a sense of fulfillment, most especially when I catch
some of my favorite fish like tuna, trout, and cod. My day’s complete once
I get one of those.
Do you like eating fish?
Without a doubt! Fish is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. It’s
loaded with essential nutrients like protein and Vitamin D. Not to mention,
it’s a good source of omega-3 fatty acids which are crucial for optimal body
and brain function. Actually, I prefer eating fish over meat.
What kinds of fish do you like eating?

I can eat any kind of fish but my favorites include mackerel, tuna, trout,
and salmon. I know they cost an arm and a leg but they’re extremely
healthy. Well, I wouldn’t compromise my health on eating more meat just
because it’s cheaper than fish.
Insects

Do you like insects?

Well, not all kinds of insects!  There are some that I adore like ladybird
beetles, butterflies, dragonflies, and fireflies for one obvious reason – they
bring beauty to the environment. In fact, they’re commonly the subjects of
my photographs!
Do you think insects are useful?

Yes they are, I think every living organism in this world has its purpose. I
don’t think they exist for no special purpose. For instance, butterflies
pollinate plants; bees produce honey that we all love eating, these kinds of
insects really serve a purpose for both the environment and humans. Well,
as for other insects, like those that people loathe, I just don’t have any
idea of their purpose or use.
What kinds of insects make some people scared?
Oh that’s a no-brainer question! Most people are frightened with
cockroaches that whenever they see one, they usually scream at the top of
their lungs, and men are no exemption for that. Funnily enough, some
men, even those muscular men or manly men, are incredibly frightened
with those insects. Also, I think hornets are scary because their sting is life-
threatening.
Are there many different insects in the place where you live?

(Answer 1)
Yes there are but only beautiful and endearing insects like butterflies and
dragonflies. I don’t see those insects that are frightening since our house
and our backyard are regularly treated with insecticides.
