PART 1 – NEW TOPICS

Part 1.1 Work or study

 Do you work or are you a student?

I’m currently a freshman/ sophomore/ junior/ senior at Diplomatic Academy

of Vietnam - one of the top schools in Vietnam. Now I still can’t believe I was
able to gain admission to the university because it’s so competitive.

 What do you study?

I’m majoring in the English language and as you can guess, I have to deal a lot
with something like phonetics and phonology, lexicology or grammar. To be
honest, they are sometimes overwhelming to me, but I have a knack for
linguistics, so it’s OK.

 What do you like about your study? (Do you like your study?)

(Yes). For the most part, I would say it’s the environment. We speak in
English 100% in the class and it helps us develop our English skills
substantially. Besides, almost all the classrooms are equipped with top-notch
facilities like air-conditioners or overhead projectors. My teachers and friends
are nice as well. All in all, it’s a great place to study.

 What do you dislike about your study?

The aspect I find most challenging is the workload. I mean there are always a
lot of assignments and students are constantly under a lot of pressure. I
always have to burn the midnight oil before the exams. Fortunately, I usually
ace them with thorough revision.

 Would you say that you are a good student?

I think it’s more objective if my teacher and friends could answer this question.
Sometimes, I play truant to hang out with my friends and I do procrastinate.
However, I’ve never missed any deadlines and usually got good marks in
exams.

 Do you think that the education in Vietnam is effective and practical?

Honestly, I don’t think so. The education system in our nation still focuses on
impractical exam-driven curricula, which put a lot of pressure on students.
The reason is that it is the parents that care way too much about grades. In fact,
many high schoolers considered as good at English can’t say a single word in
English. I think it needs changing.

Part 1.2 Hometown

 Where are you from?

I was born and raised in a family on the outskirts of Hanoi. The village where I
lived has a very tranquil atmosphere. Although I’ve been living in the city
centre for my study for the better part of the last 4 years, I always get back to
my village to escape from the hectic pace of city life on weekends.

 What do you like about your hometown?

I really like the hospitality of the people in my village where we are living
close together and willing to give others a hand when needed. It’s what I can
hardly find in my current residential area where neighbours see each other as
strangers.

 Do you like living in the city?

To be honest, I don’t really like living in the city regardless of all the modern
facilities it can offer. I love the outdoors, trees, big yards and the like. I
particularly hate the traffic in the city. It’s a nightmare at times when I was
stuck in gridlock for hours.

 Would you prefer to live somewhere else? (Why)?

Absolutely yes, and it would be the village in my hometown. I think that in the
long- term future, I’ll stay in the city because there are more job opportunities
for me here. Maybe during my retirement, I get back to my hometown to settle
down for good.

 Does your hometown have a lot of tourists?

No, it doesn’t. It’s just a typical village of the outdoors in Vietnam with
small houses, winding alleys, paddy fields and rivers. I mean it’s just an
ordinary place and there are no tourist attractions.

 Do you think your hometown is a good place for young people? (Why)?

Actually, I don’t think so. Public facilities are not developed in my hometown.
There are no universities, hospitals, shopping malls or companies like in the
city. Also, the area is not highly accessible by public transport. Youngsters are
better off moving to the city where they can land a decent job and enjoy
modern life.

Part 1.4 Tea and coffee

 Do people like tea and coffee nowadays?
Absolutely, tea and coffee continue to be well-loved beverages in Vietnam. While
traditional tea remains a staple, there's also a growing trend of enjoying specialty
teas and innovative coffee blends. Coffee, in particular, has become a social and
cultural symbol, with people often gathering at coffee shops to socialize and enjoy
different coffee creations.

 Which do you prepare for your guest at home? Tea or coffee?

I guess this is just a matter of preference. But in Vietnam, most households

usually have a teapot in their living room to welcome guests. That said, if a friend
comes to my house and says he’d like a cup of coffee, I will make him one.

 When was the last time you drank tea or coffee?

Well just this morning, right after I had my breakfast. I make it a habit to always
drink a cup of coffee in order for me to improve my mood and boost my
productivity at work throughout the day, most especially in the morning.

 Do you ever go out to drink tea or coffee?

Yeah, sure! As I was saying, I’m a huge fan of coffee, and I’d like to brew fresh
coffee for myself every morning. So I usually go out and buy coffee. Nothing
really special, just a popular type of coffee that is sold everywhere in supermarkets
in Vietnam.

 Do most people in your country like to drink tea or coffee?

Oh, absolutely, tea and coffee are like daily essentials in Vietnam. Coffee, in
particular, is a big deal. We've got our own unique style, like the famous
Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk, and you'll find coffee shops on
practically every corner. It's a social thing too; people often gather at cafes to catch
up or just chill.

Part 1.5 Public Transport

 Do you use public transportation much?
Yes, I do. I take the bus on a daily basis. It’s the cheapest to get around, even
though it is overcrowded at times, and not particularly punctual. Besides, I can do
other things like reading books or sleeping while sitting on the bus.

 What kind of public transportation do you usually take?

I think buses are my favorite public means of transport. Though at first, I
was liable to carsickness and hated taking a bus, but after a long time, I got used
to that. Now I feel comfortable, and with only 100,000 dong for a monthly
commutation ticket, I could commute to work every day without any anxiety.

 Is there sufficient public transportation in your city?

Generally, public transportation in my city is sufficient. Buses and trains serve
extensive areas. However, during peak hours, certain routes can get overcrowded.
Enhancing frequency and capacity during busy times would be beneficial.

 How do you think public transport could be improved?

To improve public transportation, several measures could be considered.
Firstly, increasing bus and train frequency, especially during peak hours, would
help reduce overcrowding and waiting times. Furthermore, providing dedicated
lanes for buses and implementing traffic management strategies would help
improve overall reliability and reduce travel time for commuters.

Part 1.6 Clothing

 Do you prefer to wear comfortable and casual clothes to smart
clothes?
I'm all about comfort, so I definitely prefer wearing comfortable and casual
clothes. There's something liberating about slipping into a cozy pair of jeans
and a soft t-shirt, you know. Don't get me wrong; dressing up in smart
clothes for special occasions can be fun, but for day-to-day wear, comfort wins
for me.
 Do you spend a lot of time choosing clothes?

I don't spend a lot of time choosing clothes every day. I usually plan my outfits
the night before, so in the morning, it takes me only a few minutes to decide
what to wear. I value efficiency in my morning routine.

 Do you like wearing T-shirts?

Yes, I do enjoy wearing T-shirts. They are comfortable and versatile, making
them suitable for various occasions. Whether I'm lounging at home or going out
with friends, T-shirts provide a casual and relaxed style.”

Part 1.7 Geography

 How do you feel about geography?

I have a strong interest in geography. It's fascinating to learn about different

countries, cultures, and landscapes. Understanding how our world is
interconnected through geography is essential. It's a subject that never ceases to
intrigue me.
 Have you ever studied geography at school?
Yes, I have studied geography in school. It was part of our curriculum, and I
found it quite interesting. I learned about various countries, their capitals,
natural landscapes, and environmental issues. Geography classes helped me
develop a better understanding of the world around us and
its interconnectedness
 Are you good at reading maps?
It depends on the type of map. If it's a printed map, I struggle
with interpreting the directions and symbols. However, if I use a mapping
platform like Google Maps, it's much easier for me. The application provides
detailed maps and advanced features such as navigation
recommendations and traffic updates. I find this kind of mapping technology to
be very helpful in navigating new areas.
 Do you think geography is useful?
I believe learning geographic knowledge is highly valuable. It enhances my
understanding of the world, helps with travel planning, and fosters cultural
appreciation. Geography also plays a crucial role in addressing global issues
like climate change and resource management, making it relevant and
beneficial for personal growth and global awareness.
Part 1.8 Fish
 Do you like eating fish?
Oh, I definitely enjoy eating fish. There's something about a well-cooked fish
dish that's both delicious and healthy. It's like a win-win for your taste buds and
your body.
• Where would you go to find fish?
Typically, I would seek out seafood in places known for their fresh seafood
offerings. Coastal areas, seafood markets, and reputable seafood restaurants are
often my go-to choices. Coastal regions are known for their abundance of
fresh catches, while seafood markets provide a wide variety of
options. Additionally, seafood restaurants specializing in seafood dishes often
offer a diverse selection and ensure the freshness of the seafood they serve.
• If you do eat fish, what is your favourite?
If I were to choose a favorite fish, I would say salmon is at the top of my list. I
appreciate its rich, flavorful flesh and the way it pairs well with different
seasonings and cooking methods. Additionally, salmon is also known for its
health benefits due to its high omega-3 fatty acid content.
• Why do people go fishing?
People go fishing for various reasons. For some, fishing is a recreational
activity that allows them to relax and connect with nature. It offers an
opportunity to spend time outdoors, enjoy the tranquility of the water,
and escape from the stresses of daily life. Fishing can also be a social activity,
providing an avenue for spending quality time with friends and family.
Additionally, fishing can be a means of sustenance, with individuals relying on
it to catch food and support their livelihoods in areas where fishing is a
traditional or commercial activity.

Part 1.9 Robots

• Are you interested in robots?
Robots? Yeah, they're kinda a big deal these days. They're like the unsung
heroes behind a lot of stuff we use, from making our gadgets to building cars.
So yeah, I'd say they're pretty important.
• Have you ever learnt anything about robots?
Yes, I have some basic knowledge about robots, but it's quite limited. Robots,
as far as I know, are machines that can perform tasks automatically. They're
used in various areas, like factories for assembly line work or in some advanced
industries. Some of them can be controlled by remote or follow pre-
programmed instructions.

 How would you feel travelling in a car driven by a robot?

While I appreciate the potential for safer transportation with robot-driven cars,
there might still be some initial apprehension – I mean, I think I'd be pretty
scared being in a car controlled 100% by a robot or computer – especially if you
saw the crazy traffic in my city.
 Would robots affect people's lives?
Well, robots make our lives more convenient as they can replace people doing
mundane tasks that people hate doing. From a business perspective, robots
increase the quantity of item production with minimal errors compared to
laborers. However, because of robots, some laborers lose their jobs for the
obvious reason they can't produce items as fast as robots.
Part 1.10 Gifts
 What kind of gifts are popular in your country?
Well, in Vietnam, gifts can vary quite a bit depending on the occasion.
For major celebrations like the Lunar New Year (Tet), it's common to give
gifts like food, fruit baskets, or even lucky money in red envelopes (called "li
xi"). For birthdays and other celebrations, people often go
for thoughtful presents like flowers, chocolates, or maybe something personal
like a custom-made item.
 Are you good at choosing gift for other people?
I'd like to think I'm quite skilled at selecting gifts for others. I make an effort
to consider the person's interests, hobbies, and preferences to find something
truly meaningful and tailored to their taste.
 Have you ever given a person a gift you made yourself?
Certainly, I've had the pleasure of creating and giving homemade gifts. I find
that such gifts carry a unique personal touch and can convey deeper emotions.
One memorable instance was when I made a handmade card with an original
watercolor painting on it, which I painted myself. My grandmother cherished it
for years, and it became a cherished keepsake.
 What do you consider when choosing a gift?
When selecting a gift, I take into account several factors, including the
recipient's tastes, interests, and our relationship. I believe that a meaningful
gift should reflect the recipient's preferences and demonstrate that I've put
thought into it, conveying a heartfelt message.
 Have you ever received a gift which you didn't like?
Yes, I have received gifts that weren't exactly my preference. However, I
always appreciate the thought and effort behind the gesture. It's considered
impolite to show dissatisfaction with a gift, so I express gratitude regardless.
 Why do people give gifts?
Gift-giving is a way to express love, gratitude, and good wishes. It strengthens
relationships and is deeply rooted in our culture. Whether it's a small token of
appreciation or a significant present, gifts convey emotions that words
sometimes cannot express.

Part 1.11 Helping others

 Do you usually help people around you?

Yes, helping those around me is something I really value. Small acts of kindness
can make a big difference. I think that people today are sometimes a bit mean
when it comes to helping others, especially helping strangers in need. I like to set a
good example and help anyone who needs help.

 How do you help people around you?

I provide assistance to people by running errands, offering emotional support, or

volunteering when possible. I also help strangers or people in the street who ask for
help, or look like they need a helping hand even it’s a small actions.

 Do your parents teach you how to help others?

My parents have instilled the value of helping others in me since childhood, but
also I learned about the importance of helping others in school, as well. I know that
not everyone has this kind of education at home as well as school, so I appreciate
my having had this kind of encouragement to help others from my parents as well
as teachers.

 What have you done to help the elderly?

To support the elderly, I've volunteered in the admin at a local nursing home,
spending time with and assisting the residents, too – that was last summer as part
of a community volunteer initiative. I also quite regularly help an old lady who
lives nearby – you know, I help her with shopping and some chores from time to
time.
Part 1.12 Noise
 Do you like to stay in a place with a lot of noise?

No, I prefer quiet and peaceful environments. Excessive noise can

be distracting and stressful for me. I find it easier to concentrate and relax in
quieter surroundings. Whether at home or while studying, a calm atmosphere
allows me to be more productive and at ease

 Do you think there is too much noise in today’s world?

Yes, I believe there is an increasing amount of noise in today's world. With the
constant buzz of technology, urban environments, and social media, it's
challenging to find moments of quiet and solitude. This noise can be
overwhelming and impact our well-being

 Is making noise one of people’s rights?

Making noise can be considered a right, but it should be controlled. Everyone

has the freedom to express themselves and engage in activities that may
produce noise. However, it should be balanced with consideration for others,
leading to noise regulations and etiquettes

 What kinds of noises are there in the area where you live?

Well, in my neighborhood, we have occasional traffic noise, and sometimes

dogs barking can be a bit bothersome, but we're all pretty understanding. It's
all part of community life, and we find ways to cope and get along.

 Do you want to move to a quieter place?

Not really. While the noise can be a bit much sometimes, I've grown attached
to my neighborhood. I appreciate the vibrancy and convenience it offers. Plus,
it's where my friends and community are, so I'm happy right where I am.

Part 1.13 Films

 Do you like to watch films?
Absolutely, I’m such a big fan of watching films. They are a remarkable source
of relaxation and inspiration, which allows me to delve into all the ranges of
human emotions and experiences. Moreover, films give me a chance to
appreciate the diverse creativity of filmmakers around the world.
 How often do you watch films?
I would say I watch films around three to four times a week, depending on my
schedule. I tend to unwind after work or indulge in a movie marathon during
the weekends, which not only helps me relax but also enriches my knowledge
in different fields in our lives.
 How often do you go to the cinema to watch a movie?
I visit the cinema approximately once or twice a month to catch the latest
releases. Although it is so much more comfortable to watch movies at home,
the experience of sitting in a cinema, with its large screen and immersive sound
system, is truly worthwhile.
 Where do your prefer to watch films – at the cineme or at home?
 Do you think going to the cinema is a good way to spend time with
friends?

"Absolutely, going to the cinema is a great way to hang out with friends. It
combines entertainment and socializing, allowing us to bond over shared
experiences and discuss the film afterward. It's a fun and relaxed way to
spend quality time together while enjoying a good movie."

Part 1.14: Running

 Do you like running?

Yeah, I'm into running. It's a great way to stay active and clear your mind. I
wouldn't call myself a marathon runner or anything, but a nice jog in the park or
around the neighborhood can be pretty refreshing. Plus, it's a good excuse to
enjoy some fresh air and maybe even some good tunes on the headphones.

 Do you think running is a good way to stay healthy?

Yeah, I think running can be a pretty solid way to stay healthy. It's like a
straightforward, no-frills workout that gets your heart pumping and those legs
moving. It's not just about physical health; it can also do wonders for your mental
well-being. There's something therapeutic about pounding the pavement and having
time to think or clear your head.
 How often do you go for a run?

As I’m constantly up to my ears in work and study, I can only go for a run once
in a while. I know the amazing benefits of running but I just don’t have the luxury
of time to do that kind of exercise.

Part 1.15: Volunteer

 Do you ever give money to charity?
Yes, I do give money to charity regularly. I believe in the importance of
supporting those in need and contributing to causes that I care
about. Donating to charity is a way to make a positive impact on society and
help those less fortunate
 Have you ever done any volunteer work?
I've participated in volunteer work, specifically tree planting initiatives. It was
a rewarding experience to contribute to environmental conservation. I've
also been involved in volunteer work, specifically with dog rescue
organizations
 Would you like to work as a volunteer?
I'm really eager to volunteer. It's a chance to give back, connect with others,
and support causes I'm passionate about. Volunteering fosters personal growth
and social responsibility while making a positive impact in the community.
 Why do you think people volunteer?
People volunteer for various reasons. Some do it to give back to
their community, others want to make a positive impact, and many find it
personally rewarding. It's a way to connect with others, develop new skills,
and create a sense of fulfillment while making the world a better place
 Is volunteering worth the time it takes?
Absolutely, volunteering is totally worth the time. It's incredibly fulfilling to
make a positive impact on your community or a cause you care about. Plus,
it's a chance to learn new skills, meet great people, and create lasting
memories. It's time well spent, in my opinion
Part 1.16: Musical instrument
 Which musical instrument do you like listening to most? Why?

I adore listening to the piano the most. Its elegant melodies and
rich harmonies have a timeless appeal. The piano's versatility allows it to
convey a wide range of emotions, from soothing to dramatic. It's a magical
instrument that never fails to captivate me with its depth and expressiveness.

 Have you ever learned to play a musical instrument?

I tried my hand at playing the piano a while back. It was a fun experience, but I
never became a maestro. I can still play a few simple tunes, though. Music's
always been a cool way to unwind and express myself, even if I'm not a
professional

 Do you think children should learn to play an instrument at school?

Absolutely, I believe it's highly beneficial for children to learn to play an

instrument at school. It fosters creativity, discipline,
and cognitive development. Music education also promotes teamwork and can
be a lifelong source of joy

 How easy would it be to learn to play an instrument without a teacher?

Learning to play an instrument without a teacher can be challenging but

possible. With online resources and tutorials, self-guided learning is
accessible. It takes self-discipline, practice, and dedication. However, a teacher
can provide structured guidance, correct mistakes, and offer personalized
feedback, making the learning process more efficient and enjoyable

Part 1.17: Maps

 Do you often use maps?
I use maps quite a bit, especially when I'm exploring new places or going on
adventures. They're like my trusty sidekick for finding my way around.
Whether it's a paper map or a navigation app on my phone, they're essential
for a smooth journey
 What is the difference between mobile maps and paper maps?
Mobile maps and paper maps differ significantly. Mobile maps
are digital and interactive with real-time updates for convenient navigation
but rely on tech. Paper maps are physical and reliable without electricity, but
they lack dynamic info and need space
 Who taught you how to use maps?
I learned how to use maps from my parents. They were avid travelers and
often took me on road trips when I was young. They taught me how to read
maps, plan routes, and find landmarks. It was a valuable skill I picked up
early in life.
 How often do you use maps on your phone?
I use maps on my phone quite regularly, especially when I'm exploring new
places or navigating through the city. It's super convenient, and I rely on it to
find directions, discover nearby attractions, and even locate the best places
to eat. It's like having a personal guide in my pocket!

Part 1.18: Chatting

 Do you often chat with friends?

Yes, I chat with my friends every day. We're constantly messaging each other,
sharing jokes, and making plans. It's a great way to stay connected, especially
when we can't meet up in person. It's like having a piece of our friendship with
me all the time

 Do you prefer to chat online or face-to-face?

I'm more into chatting online, to be honest. It's convenient and allows me to
connect with friends and family, even if they're far away. But don't get me
wrong, I love face-to-face interactions too; they have a unique charm,
especially when it comes to close friends and special occasions

 Do you prefer group chat or individual chat?

I prefer individual chat over group chat for most conversations. Individual
chats allow for more focused and personal communication. However, group
chats can be useful for coordinating with multiple people or for socializing
with friends and family as a whole
 What do you usually chat about with friends?

Oh, with friends, our conversations cover a wide range of topics! We chat about
movies and TV shows we've watched, our latest travel adventures, hobbies, and, of
course, life updates. It's all about sharing experiences and staying connected in a
relaxed, friendly way

PART 2&3 – NEW TOPICS

The photo that never fails to bring a smile to my face is a picture from a
family vacation to the beach a few years ago. In the photograph, the sun is
beginning to set over the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the sky. The
ocean stretches out before us, its waves gently lapping at the shore.

In the foreground, you can see a line of footprints in the sand, a testament to the
playful walks we took along the beach. My younger sister, who was just
a toddler at the time, is in the middle of the frame, her tiny feet making
small impressions in the sand as she takes her first steps on the beach. Her face is
lit up with pure joy and wonder as she gazes at the vast expanse of the ocean
before her.

My parents are standing a bit farther down the beach, holding hands and watching
my sister's every move, their expressions a mix of love and pride. I'm behind them,
capturing this precious moment with a camera, my heart bursting with happiness at
the sight of my family together in such a serene and beautiful setting.

This photo makes me happy because it captures a moment of pure innocence, joy,

Part 2.1291: Describe a park or a garden you have enjoyed visiting
Sample:

Today I’d like to tell you about a park that I frequently visit. It’s not too far from
my house. Perhaps about 15-minutes’ drive away if the roads are clear.
As for the last time I visited it, if I remember correctly, it was last week. I had to
get in a quick workout, so I rode my motorbike to the park at around 2pm. When I
arrived, I met a couple of friends who are kind of like my workout partners.
This park is just perfect for working out because it has all the exercise equipment I
need like pull-up bars and parallel bars. It’s also surrounded by trees and a wide
variety of flowers that bloom in the summer months. It’s even pretty quiet too, so
whenever I come here I just feel at ease and I guess you could call it my happy
place.
The main reason I absolutely love visiting this park is of course because I do
my workouts here. But actually, it’s not only that. I’ve also met some fantastic
people here and we’ve even made our own ‘’team’’. I believe we’ll teach people
how to do street workouts in the future and I certainly hope we’ll be doing that at
this particular park.

that private gardens should be used for growing vegetables.
• Do you agree?
Part 3: Public & Private Gardens What do people need to do in order to
maintain a private garden?
• Do you think gardens are good for cities?
• Do you think government should spend more money on creating public
gardens?
Part 2. 1292: Describe an activity that made you feel tired
Sample:

Well, I can recall a recent experience that left me feeling utterly tired. It was a
charity marathon event that took place in my city last year.
The marathon was organized to raise funds for a local orphanage, and I decided to
participate mainly to support this noble cause. It happened on a crisp Saturday
morning in the heart of the city. The starting point was a large park filled with
eager participants and supporters.
The activity itself, the marathon, was a 10-kilometer run. Now, I must admit that
I'm not an avid runner, but the idea of contributing to a charitable cause pushed me
to sign up. The moment I joined the sea of runners at the starting line, I felt a
mixture of excitement and determination.
The race was grueling, to say the least. Running 10 kilometers required physical
endurance and mental strength. The route took us through various terrains,
including city streets, parks, and even a steep hill. The weather was scorching,
which added to the challenge. With each step, I could feel my muscles aching, and
my energy levels plummeted.
Despite the fatigue and moments of self-doubt, I kept pushing forward. What kept
me going was the knowledge that every step I took was contributing to the well-
being of the children in the orphanage. Seeing the enthusiasm of fellow runners
and the cheering of spectators along the route provided a boost of motivation.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I crossed the finish line. The sense of
accomplishment and exhaustion hit me simultaneously. My legs were wobbly, and

Part 2.1293: Describe an impressive work of art (such as painting) you saw
Sample:
One of my all-time favorite works of art is "Wheat Field with Cypresses" by
the renowned Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. This masterpiece, created in 1889
during van Gogh's stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-
Provence, France, is a stunning representation of the artist's
emotional intensity and connection with nature.
"Wheat Field with Cypresses" features a vibrant, swirling landscape dominated by
the rich golden hues of a vast wheat field. The cypress trees, with their dark,
distinctive silhouettes, stand tall against the tumultuous sky. The sky itself seems
to be alive, swirling with intense blues and whites, conveying a sense of energy
and movement.

What I find most captivating about this painting is its ability

to evoke a profound sense of emotion. Van Gogh's use of bold colors and dynamic
brushstrokes imparts a feeling of turbulence and passion. It's as if the painting is a
window into the artist's inner world, reflecting his turbulent mental state at the
time.

The cypress trees, with their slender forms, seem to reach towards the heavens,
symbolizing a sense of yearning and spirituality. In contrast, the wheat field
represents the groundedness of nature and the cycle of life.

Overall, "Wheat Field with Cypresses" is a testament to van Gogh's ability

to infuse his emotions into his artwork. It's a powerful reminder of the profound
connection between art and the human spirit, and it never fails to move me with its

The person I would like to talk about is my close friend named Trang. She is a
passionate cook who enjoys preparing delicious meals for others. I find her
culinary skills truly remarkable, and I'm always amazed by the dishes she creates.
Trang's journey into the world of cooking began when she decided to teach herself
how to cook by watching online cooking tutorials and reading cookbooks. She
started experimenting with various recipes, initially cooking for her family and
close friends. The positive feedback and compliments she received from her loved
ones served as a major motivation for her to continue honing her culinary skills.
One of the remarkable aspects of Trang's cooking is her proficiency in Vietnamese
cuisine. She specializes in preparing traditional Vietnamese dishes such as "bún
riêu,", "bún cá", "bún bò," "phở," and "hủ tiếu.". Her meticulous attention to detail

Part2.1297: Describe an interesting part in your country

Sample:
( Where it is)
I'm going to talk about Hanoi, which is located in northern Vietnam. It is and is the
capital of Vietnam, also considered one of the symbols of our country, a witness to
history.
(How you got to know about it)
I live in the countryside, so I had never been to Hanoi until I started studying at my
university. I think I first heard about it when I was in grade 6 or 7. There was a
passage about how the traditional Hanoians behave in our literature book. And it
left me with a very strong impression of their elegance and delicacy.
(What it is famous for)
I think Hanoi is mostly famous for its historical significance. It was the capital of
many dynasties in the past, so there remain many places of historical interest today.
Plus, Hanoi also experienced French colonization, which left us with much French
architecture in buildings and bridges. That’s why Hanoi has so many corners that
are a perfect background for those who like the taste of vintage. Actually today,
many fashionistas go there to take photos to capture the antique beauty of Hanoi.
Hanoi is also well-known for its people — we call them the old Hanoians. As the
citadel of many dynasties, people of the old Hanoi are very well-educated, elegant
and delicate in the way they speak, eat and live.
(Why you think it is interesting)
I find Hanoi interesting because it always reminds me of the old values of
Vietnamese people. Even though that was somehow lost, you can still see here and
there some people still preserve the old values in the way they live their life. I think
that’s the culture we should preserve.
Also, just a walk around Hanoi could make me like time slows down a little bit and
forget the hustle and bustle of life. Crossing streets with lines of green trees really
gives me peace of mind.
Another interesting thing about Hanoi is that it has many historical buildings. I
think it had withstood so much damage during the wars and is still now standing
the test of time. To me, that’s really inspiring, with its strength and durability.

Part2.1298: Describe a school rule that you have (or had) at your school
Sample:
In my school, there’s a really long list of rules we have to follow, and one of them
is the strict policy against cheating during examinations and assignments.
If students break this rule, it will definitely lead to severe consequences. If a
student is caught cheating, they often receive a failing grade for that assignment or
exam. In some cases, repeated violations can result in suspension or expulsion
from the school.
The importance of this rule cannot be overstated because it ensures that students
are evaluated fairly based on their knowledge and skills rather than dishonest
tactics. Moreover, it fosters a culture of honesty and integrity, which are essential
values in both education and society. Lastly, it encourages students to truly learn
and understand the subject matter, as cheating undermines their own educational
development.
Personally, I feel that this rule is crucial to maintaining the quality and credibility
of our education system. It ensures that hard work and genuine effort are rewarded,
and it creates an environment where students are motivated to excel through their
own abilities. While it may seem strict, it ultimately contributes to a more honest

living organisms on our planet, from the tiniest microorganisms to
the grandeur of entire ecosystems.

What I find most intriguing about biology is its relevance to our daily lives. It
explains the fundamental processes that sustain life, from genetics and evolution
to ecology and physiology. Learning about DNA and genetics, for
instance, unveils the secrets of inheritance and hereditary diseases. Studying
ecology deepens our understanding of the delicate balance of ecosystems and the
impact of human activities on our environment.

Biology also fosters a sense of wonder about the natural world. Observing
the intricacies of plant growth, animal behavior, and the marvels of biodiversity
in nature is both humbling and awe-inspiring.

Overall, my interest in biology stems from its capacity to unravel the mysteries of
life, enhance our quality of life through medical advancements, and raise

One occasion when I encountered incorrect information on the Internet was when
I was researching a historical event for a school project. I stumbled upon a
website that claimed to provide accurate details about the topic. Trusting
the credibility of the source, I relied on the information provided
and incorporated it into my project.

Later, during a discussion in class, my teacher pointed out that some of the facts I
presented were inaccurate. Puzzled, I realized that I had unknowingly fallen victim
to misinformation. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the website I
referenced had a reputation for publishing misleading content.

This experience taught me the importance of verifying information from multiple

reliable sources. I realized that the internet, while a vast source of knowledge,
also harbors inaccuracies and biases. Since then, I have become
more cautious and critical when conducting online research. I now cross-
reference information from reputable websites, consult academic sources,
and scrutinize the credibility of the authors or organizations behind the content.

restaurant
Sample:
One memorable incident when I received poor service was during a visit to a local
restaurant last year. My friends and I had chosen this restaurant based on
recommendations, and we were excited to try their renowned cuisine.

Upon entering, we were greeted with indifference by the staff. It took a while for
someone to acknowledge our presence, and when they did, their attitude was far
from welcoming. We were ushered to a table without any menus or explanations
about the specials. After a long wait, a server finally came to take our orders, but
they seemed disinterested and failed to answer our questions about the menu.

The problems didn't stop there. The food arrived late and was disappointingly cold.
When we complained about this, the staff appeared irritated rather
than apologetic. To make matters worse, our requests for water
and condiments were repeatedly ignored, leaving us parched and frustrated
throughout the meal.

The overall experience was incredibly disappointing. While we had hoped for a

I vividly recall a time when I had the opportunity to offer advice to a close friend.
It was during my final year of high school, just before our crucial college entrance
exams.

My friend, let's call her Vy, was feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the
upcoming exams. She was struggling to manage her time effectively and felt
unprepared for the challenging subjects. Recognizing her distress, she confided in
me.

I advised Vy to create a structured study schedule that allocated ample time for
each subject. I also suggested breaking down her study sessions into
manageable chunks and incorporating short breaks to avoid burnout.
Additionally, I recommended seeking help from teachers or classmates when
facing difficult topics rather than struggling in isolation.

I gave her this advice because I had experienced similar stress during previous
exams and had learned valuable study strategies. I knew that effective time
management and seeking help when needed could alleviate anxiety and boost
confidence. I wanted to support Vy in navigating this challenging period and help
her perform to the best of her abilities.

Part 2.1305: Describe A sportsperson from your country who did well in
a sports event.

To be honest, sports have never been my cup of tea; however, if I need to talk
about a popular sports person today, it’ll have to be Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.
I’m sure you have heard of her name already as she is a national record-holding
swimmer in Vietnam. At the 2014 Asian Games, she won Vietnam's first-ever
medal in Swimming. After that, her fame spread like wildfire all around my
country and even a person who was not interested in swimming like me knew
about her.
Anh Vien is regarded as one of the most influential athletes in Vietnamese history.
She has inspired countless people with the story of her career. Additionally, she is
also living proof that with sheer determination and total dedication, you can be
successful in your career path. Back in the day when she was just nameless and
unknown, she had to train in such harsh conditions and was challenged to break her
own limit. However, her commitment to her swimming career was unwavering and
she never gave up.
Even when her career blossomed, and she became a highly sought-after athlete in
Vietnam, she is still hard-working and never skips a practice day. I still vividly
remember her famous quotation when she was asked why she kept trying and
improving despite being at the peak of her career. Without hesitation, she said: “If
I am satisfied with what I have achieved, I am a failure now, not tomorrow. I don't
remember winning, every day I work hard as if I haven't won anything.”
Unfortunately, her career’s success is only ephemeral. At the 2020 Summer
Olympics, Anh Vien failed in the qualifying round of the swimming events; the
parameters also showed that her performance was no longer the same as before.
However, I believe that Anh Vien is a perennial legend in swimming of all time in
Vietnam, and she will undoubtedly go down in history.

Part2.1306: Describe A time you had to wait for something that would
happen

One decision that comes to mind is when I decided to wait to buy a new laptop. I
had been using my old laptop for several years, and it was starting to show its age.
It was slow, the battery life was poor, and it often overheated. I knew I needed a
new one, but I was hesitant to spend a lot of money on a new laptop.
After doing some research, I found that new models were going to be released in a
few months, and the prices of the current models were likely to drop. I decided to
wait until the new models came out and then make a decision. It was difficult to
wait, as I was eager to have a new laptop, but I knew it would be worth it in the
long run.

When the new models were released, I was able to compare the features and prices
and find a laptop that suited my needs and budget. I ended up saving a significant
amount of money by waiting and purchasing the previous year's model.

This experience taught me the importance of patience and doing research before
making a big purchase. It also showed me that waiting for something can have its

everyday conversations, discussing topics like food, travel, and culture. What made
it stand out was the authenticity of the interactions; it felt like real people having

contexts. It demonstrated that learning a new language could open doors to new
cultures, friendships, and experiences. It made me feel that learning a language was
not just a skill but a gateway to connecting with people worldwide.
I think this advertisement is incredibly useful because it motivates people to start

tedious and difficult. Instead, it presents it as an exciting adventure. It also
promotes the Duolingo app as a user-friendly platform to begin this journey.
As someone who enjoys learning languages, this advertisement resonated with me
on a personal level. It reminded me of the joy of discovering a new language and

Sample:

Well, I can recall a time when I faced a perplexing computer problem. It happened
about a year ago at my home office.
The issue arose one evening when I was working on an important project. My
computer suddenly froze, and I couldn't access any of my files or applications. It
was a rather frustrating situation, especially since I had not saved my work for a
while, and I was worried about losing all my progress.
I initially attempted to restart the computer, thinking it might be a minor glitch.
However, even after rebooting, the problem persisted. I then tried to troubleshoot it
myself by checking for software updates and running diagnostic tests, but nothing
seemed to work. The frustration was mounting as I realized I might have to seek
professional help, which could mean a significant delay in completing my project.
After a bit of online research, I stumbled upon a forum where users were
discussing a similar issue. Many recommended a specific software tool for
repairing corrupted files and system errors. I downloaded the tool and ran a scan on
my computer. It identified and repaired several corrupted files that were likely
causing the freezing issue.
To my immense relief, after the repair process was complete, my computer started
functioning normally again. I immediately saved my work and backed up all my
important files to prevent a similar problem in the future. It was a huge sigh of
relief and a valuable lesson in the importance of regular backups.
This experience taught me the significance of patience and resourcefulness when
dealing with computer problems. Instead of panicking or immediately seeking
expensive technical support, I learned that many issues can be resolved with the
right software tools and a bit of research. It also underscored the importance of
regular system maintenance and backups to safeguard against data loss.

Part 2.1309: Describe A difficult task that you completed at work or study
that you felt proud of
Sample:
One particularly challenging task I completed was a complex group assignment
during my final semester at university. The assignment involved creating
a comprehensive business proposal for a new product launch in our marketing
course.

To complete the task, my group and I had to brainstorm ideas, conduct market
research, analyze competitors, develop a marketing strategy, and prepare a detailed
presentation. Each member had specific responsibilities, and
we collaborated extensively through meetings and online communication tools.

This assignment was especially difficult due to its scope and the need for in-
depth research and analysis. We had to gather and synthesize data from various
sources, assess market trends, and devise a unique marketing
plan. Coordinating schedules and balancing individual contributions within the
group also presented challenges.
Despite the complexity, we persevered, ensuring each team member contributed
their expertise. We met tight deadlines and presented a well-researched,
comprehensive proposal. The result was not only a high grade but also a sense
of accomplishment and pride in our collective effort.

In the end, I was proud of completing this task, as it showcased our teamwork,
problem-solving abilities, and commitment to academic excellence.

Part 2.1310: Describe A person who always has interesting ideas or opinions

I would like to talk about a remarkable person in my life who always has
interesting ideas and opinions—my classmate, Thảo Anh. She stands out as
someone with a unique perspective on various matters and is often sought after for
her insightful thoughts.
Thảo Anh and I have been classmates for quite some time, and I've had the
privilege of witnessing her creative thinking firsthand. We often find ourselves
working together in group assignments or projects, and every time, I am grateful
for the opportunity to collaborate with her. What sets Thảo Anh apart is her ability
to approach problems and tasks from unconventional angles. Instead of sticking to
conventional thinking, she encourages us to explore new horizons of thought.
One instance that particularly impressed me was when we were tasked with
creating a presentation for a class project. While most of us were brainstorming in
a rather traditional manner, Thảo Anh took the lead and introduced a completely
fresh perspective to our project. Her innovative ideas and creativity were evident
as she transformed our presentation into a unique and captivating experience. Her
ideas not only made the project outstanding but also garnered praise from our
teacher.
Moreover, during school events and competitions, Thảo Anh has repeatedly been
chosen as the chief scriptwriter. Her talent for crafting engaging narratives and
her unconventional approach to storytelling breathe life into our performances.
Thanks to her imaginative ideas, our team has won the first prize in the school's
cultural and artistic contests multiple times.
When I asked Thảo Anh about the source of her creative ideas, she attributed it to
her upbringing. Her parents, she explained, have always encouraged her to think
outside the box, view things fromunconventional angles, and continually
reinvent herself and her thought processes. Her willingness to embrace new
perspectives and her courage to express her unique ideas are qualities I deeply
admire.

Part 2.1312: Describe A beautiful city

Sample:

Well, there's this captivating place in Vietnam called Hoi An. It's a picturesque
town located in the central part of the country, in Quang Nam province, along the
banks of the Thu Bon River.
I got to know about Hoi An through recommendations from friends who had
visited, and I was also drawn to it by the enticing images I saw online. Hoi An is
often referred to as the "City of Lanterns" due to its famous lantern-lit evenings
and its well-preserved ancient town.
One of the most outstanding features of Hoi An is its beautifully preserved
architecture from the 15th to the 19th century. The town is a UNESCO World
Heritage Site and is known for its charming yellow buildings with intricate wooden
details. Walking through the old town feels like stepping back in time, and the
lantern-lit streets at night create a magical atmosphere.
Hoi An is also famous for its tailoring shops. It's a paradise for those looking to get
custom-made clothing at affordable prices. The skilled tailors can create anything
from traditional Vietnamese ao dai to modern suits, and the quality is exceptional.
What makes Hoi An even more intriguing is its cultural diversity. The town has a
mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese influences, which is reflected in its
architecture, cuisine, and traditions. You can explore ancient temples, sample
delicious local dishes, and even participate in traditional lantern-making
workshops.
What I find most interesting about Hoi An is its unique blend of history, culture,
and natural beauty. The town has managed to preserve its heritage while also
embracing modern tourism. Whether it's strolling along the river, trying local
delicacies at the night market, or simply taking in the serene ambiance, Hoi An has
a special charm that is hard to resist.
