Science – Grade 6
Quarter 3 – Module 12: Electrical Energy to Sound Energy
First Edition, 2020
Republic Act 8293, section 176 states that: No copyright shall subsist
in any work of the Government of the Philippines. However, prior approval of the
government agency or office wherein the work is created shall be necessary for

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of
the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners
as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active
learner.
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.
EXPECTATIONS
The module is about electrical energy to sound energy.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. describe the energy transformation from electrical energy to sound
energy;
2. explain energy transformation from electrical energy to sound
energy; and
3. initiate energy conservation by saving electrical energy at home.

answer on a separate sheet of paper.
RECAP
In the previous lesson you learned that there are different forms of
energy. Can you still recall the different forms of energy? Complete the chart.
Write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.
It is nice to know that you can still remember that lesson. The different
forms of energy are (1) mechanical energy, (2) chemical energy, (3) radiant/
light energy, (4) electrical energy, (5) sound energy, (6) thermal energy, and
(7) nuclear energy.
LESSON
You would not hear music at all if not for loudspeakers or electric
sound-making devices. Radios, televisions, computers, cellular phones,
intercoms, and talking toys are just some of the electric gadgets that produce
sound through loudspeakers. But what exactly are loudspeakers and how do
they work?
This is how a loudspeaker works. When a fluctuating electric current
flows through the coil (orange), it becomes a temporary electromagnet,
attracted and repelled by the permanent magnet (blue/red). As the coil
moves, it moves the cone (gray) back and forth, pumping sound waves into
the air (light blue).
When things shake about or vibrate, they make the sounds we can hear
in the world around us. Sound is invisible most of the time, but sometimes
you can actually see it! If you thump a kettle-drum with a stick, you can see
the tight drum skin moving up and down very quickly for some time
afterward—pumping sound waves into the air. Loudspeakers work in a
similar way.

VALUING
After studying your lessons and helping in the household chores, you
spend your free time watching television with your siblings. When you are
watching, your younger brother is always adjusting the volume to its
maximum level.
In this lesson, you learned that by doing that you are consuming a lot
of energy and producing noise pollution. What do you think should you do?
What will you tell your brother? What should you do to conserve energy and
lessen the noise pollution?
